    Looking at the price this makes sense, this is not the “new” 2021 model, this is the old Apple TV HD from 2015 with the new 2021 remote. Just wanted to point that out in case buyers think the hope package is the latest model.

      I have had google, reko, fire sticks etc. None of them compare to this. So much faster, intuitive. If you have other apple products, you can easily share content on it, look a pictures on your phone but also use your iPhone/iPad or Apple Watch to control the TV. Only downside is there is less choice of streaming services but all the main ones (Netflix, غ, Disney etc) work perfectly. You can even play App Store games on it.

      As always with Apple, the benefits come if you are part of the Apple ‘ecosystem’.

      Beaming pictures from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the screen is a real timesaver, as is effortlessly popping on/in your AirPods and streaming the sound straight to you.

      Logging in to your Apple Music or Apple TV account puts everything on your screen and the quality of picture is incredibly impressive.

      Beyond that, there are a world of apps at your fingertips for more diverse streaming and having all the favourites (Now, Netflix, غ Prime) in one place is something you don’t always find with streaming sticks (a problem thankfully now dying out) but having big hitters like BT Sport and (soon, if rumours are to be believed) Sky Go on here too makes it well worth the extra cost.

      I can’t say what it’s like for those who don’t have all things apple in terms of connectivity but it does look like most of the functionality is retained, albeit not as smooth and effortless.

      Overall, 5 stars from me and well worth the extra expenditure after years of overheating and eventually dying غ/Now/Roku sticks.

      Though I’ve had many qualms with Apple products lately, buying this as a replacement for my folks old gen 1 Apple TV is not something I regret. They’ve really added some nice tech to the box, it’s a solid build and the mic function on the controller is great. Good app availability and nice stable OS. I personally have a SheildTV which is great but some of the apps on it are plagued by bugs. Not the case with the Apple TV. Good purchase. I would just ask Apple to improve the menus a little as all of these streaming boxes seem to be a little cumbersome with their interfaces when looking for specific shows.

      Since the Apple TV3 is slowly becoming unusable as its really really old now (5 years!), it was time to replace it. We used a ATV3 for several years in the bedroom to pull content from Apple TV and Sky News. Since September, ATV3 can no longer play from the Sky New app, goodness knows why.

      I toyed with an غ Fire Stick, but having read the reviews, decided against it as there is a lot of negative commentary regarding poor user experience and lag. So I went with this.

      I also have a Apple TV4K in the living room, but hate the original remote control, so buying this allowed me to use the remote from the new ATVHD on my 4K and use the simpler ATV3 remote on the new HD, so lots of positives.

      The usual Apple experience, easy to use and excellent at pulling content from Apple TV+ and anything stored locally on the TV App on a Mac. New users do get some free Apple TV+ subscription ranging from 3 months to a year depending on how generous Apple are feeling at the time.

      Lots of apps available.

      Would be 5 stars if it wasn't for the fact that in 5 years they will replace it with something new and stuff will stop working on this one. There was a time when you bought something Apple because it lasted forever, but I guess therein lies the problem, no business will keep their investors happy if they make their stuff to last. A pity really as we do need to repair, reuse and upcycle a lot more, but Apple and many others are going the wrong way with this. Some day we will recognise and address this, but not in my lifetime I'm sad to say.
