Product description
The collection opens with a new version of the album that was remixed by Michael Hunter. It also includes the original mix by the album's producer Dave Meegan, a live recording of Marillion performing at the Rotterdam Ahoy arena on September 29, 1995 during the group's tour supporting 'Afraid of Sunlight', and a Blu-ray which features the album's original 1995 mix along with several new mixes (48/24 LPCM stereo remix; 48/24 DTS 5.1 mix; 48/24 LPCM 5.1 mix). Video content includes interviews with the band discussing the album, a new documentary about 'Afraid of Sunlight', and a promo film for 'Beautiful.' The Blu-ray disc also collects the nine bonus recordings from the remastered edition of the album that was released in 1999, plus 17 previously unreleased songs.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 June 2024This, the eighth and final deluxe box set from Marillion, is a masterpiece. Remastered and remixed with both CD's and Blu Ray (not to mention a fabulous book) it completes the set of studio albums released in the band's time with EMI. Not one for the occasional listener - but one for the diehard fan - it is an epic undertaking in common with the other albums and on a par with the Jethro Tull albums which are being given the same treatment. If you have the audio system compatible there is even a 5.1 Dolby version on the Blu Ray. Also on the Blu Ray is a live concert along with a documentary on the making of the album. Superb.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 November 2019These deluxe edition box sets from Marillion are incredible value for money and Afraid of Sunlight is no exception. Here's a fantastic remix of the original album, a 5.1 mix, bonus tracks, a full length documentary and two additional discs of live material all enclosed in a beautiful hardback book with stunning artwork - all for under £25. Wonderful!
One is bound to make comparisions with the recent Abbey Road 50th anniversary edition - a fantastic release in itself but with arguably less content and costing more than three times as much!
This album itself is possibly my favourite from the H era along with Brave, and Michael Hunter has done a bang on job with the remix. The 5.1 version is worth the cost alone.
Buy this one now and then add Childhood, Brave and Straws if you can still find them.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 December 2019A fantastic edition. This was an album that I original struggled with on it initial release. As a Marillion fan I started to collect these edition and as with the others so far I, m not disappointed. The new mix really stands out and the live disc are amazing. The booklet is great and also the dvd interview with the band explaining the making off the album is great to watch. Now looking forward the Script for a jesters tale which is for 2020. Defo 5 out of 5.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 May 2020This really is excellent & the film of the group discussing the recording & events before & during the recording is very illuminating. I’m a “Johnny come lately” to the band but they are great - particularly in the H era. I’ll be back for more...
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 November 2019Great album and package from one of Britain’s best bands. Marillion have been a go to in recent years for people starved of quality rock like Pink Floyd etc. These and the Jethro Tull packages offer great value and show you can release a deluxe edition which offers value to fans. Great presentation. Wonderful rock band.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2019Great box set but if your buying for the 5.1 mix then you might be a little disappointed as it sound like a
Fake mix to me and far to compressed otherwise cd mix is great and the live stuff is good too
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 January 2020Brought this as a gift for a massive Marillion fan and they loved it. You seem to get a lot for your money. Would highly recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mix and informative interview
This has always been one of my favorite Marillion albums but I found the sound a bit muddy on the original mix. This remix, especially the 5.1, solves all of the problems I had with the original version. Also, the video of the band talking about the writing and recording of the album is, alone, worth the price of the set. Their personalities and creative ideas come through in a way that makes me appreciate the music even more. I'm really happy with this set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alléluia !
Gloups!
