Product description

All six films in the 'Alien' franchise. In Ridley Scott's 'Alien' (1979) the crew of the Nostromo starship are on their way back to Earth after completing a mission when they are diverted to a planetoid to investigate a cryptic message. While exploring an abandoned spacecraft on the planet, they come across a store of unhatched eggs. When one of the eggs releases a mysterious creature that leeches on to a crew member's face, the others bring him back on board to recover from the ordeal. Little do they know that they have also brought on board an alien lifeform that will kill anyone or anything that gets in its way. In James Cameron's sequel, 'Aliens' (1986), sole survivor from the Nostromo Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) awakens after 57 years in stasis, and with a team of Space Marines in tow she returns to the planetoid now named LV-426 to investigate the loss of contact with the terraforming colony in residence. In David Fincher's dark 'Alien 3' (1992), Ripley crash lands on an old prison planet used to house convicted murderers - but she's not alone. When Ripley discovers her body is being used to carry an alien queen she faces a difficult decision to save humanity and sacrifice herself. In Jean-Pierre Jeunet's 'Alien Resurrection' (1997), 200 years after Ripley died bearing the alien queen, a group of scientists successfully produce clones of both her and the alien. The United States Military, hoping to use the queen to breed aliens to study, fail to keep the clones locked up and they escape. It is not long before the new Ripley is forced to team up with a gang of smugglers to repel the alien clones that are set on destroying life on Earth. In 'Prometheus' (2012) Scott returns to direct a new cast of Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce. After finding fragments of alien DNA, a team of scientists known as The Company travel into space aboard the state-of-the-art Prometheus spacecraft to investigate the origins of human life on Earth. Their journey takes them into the darkest corners of the universe - but, to their horror, their inquisitive nature ends up posing a threat to the future existence of humankind. The scientists now find themselves tested to their mental and physical limits as they fight a desperate battle to preserve the future of the human race. Finally, in 'Alien: Covenant' (2017), set as a sequel to 'Prometheus' (2012), the crew of the Covenant discover a planet they believe to be paradise, but when they actually start to investigate they find a dark and dangerous world inhabited by a colony of creatures who are less than pleased to see them.

Great value, Digital Copy Issue
This is not a review of the films, that’s a matter of personal taste, this is about the product itself, this includes all 6 films with some bonuses, On disc you get, Alien (1979 Theatrical version & 2003 Directors Cut), Aliens (1986 Theatrical version & 1990 Special Edition), Alien3 (1992 Theatrical version & 2003 Special Edition), Alien Resurrection (1997 Theatrical version & 2003 Special Edition), Prometheus (2012 Theatrical version) and finally Alien Covenant (2017 Theatrical version) and the digital copies are Alien (116 min theatrical version), Aliens (137 min theatrical version), Alien3 (114 min theatrical version), Alien Resurrection (108 min theatrical version), Prometheus (123 min theatrical version) & Alien Covenant (122 min theatrical version), 6 Blu-ray Discs, nicely packaged in a double thickness case, but not much in the way of extras in the paperwork, other than the 3 inserts, each holding 2 redeem codes, one on each side, this is the tricky bit, to redeem you have to go to foxredeem.com where you have to enter a code, you will then get a choice of where you want your digital copy of the film to go, well I say choice, the choice is Google, for some reason Fox films I have bought of late, only redeem to Google, Not Flixster or iTunes, just Google, which I find very annoying, but once you have set up your Google Play Account, you can redeem your digital copy, then go back to the fox redeem site, and do the same again for the next 5 films, individually, why they couldn’t manage this with a single code beats me, I have redeemed boxed sets before, this is the first one to give 6 individual codes, but once you have spent half your free time going through all this, tried to watch one of the films to see if it worked and check the standard, but it crashed my Mac, probably Google spies trying to access files they have need to and getting kicked off by my security, I really don’t like google too much, would have been much happier having an actual option in where to redeem the copies, which must be redeemed by 31/12/2020

Great movies and they look even better from Blu-Ray (frame rate and resolution). The Alien 3 Special Edition makes it almost a completely different movie. I can't work out how to use the MU/TH/UR feature, but I'll figure it out.

I honestly don't know why on earth I bought this! A true moment of Wilson madness. The thing is I have ALL the films on excellent BLURAY. However I managed to watch 3 of the films here out of interest and whilst they are obviously NOT BluRay standard, they are excellent DVD transfers. Correct ratios, good sound, subtitles and extras. So....If by any unlikely chance you have none or even just one of the films this set could be a real bargain. Compact but carefully presented it will take up minimal space, and as the films are (nearly) all excellent - well worth the 5 stars.

(A full in-depth review of the first Alien film is available on my own film & TV review site - link in my ÍøÆغÚÁÏ profile, with the remaining films hopefully coming soon!)

I already owned most of the Alien films on home media, but in my never-ending quest to save on shelf space, I decided to downsize to this compact collection of all six films. Rather than a bulky boxset, this collection handily has all the films in the same size case as a standard DVD. It's a neat set and worth picking up especially if you want to relive or are looking to get into this franchise of films. The films themselves are of... varied quality to say the least, so as a bit of fun here are some quick verdicts on each of them:

Alien - As I've said, I've reviewed Alien in-depth already, but to reiterate this remains one of the finest examples of its genre and genuinely holds up to this day. Plenty of films still turn to Ridley Scott's original for inspiration and for good reason. It builds up a constant sense of dread, makes you feel that sense of isolation and claustrophobia, boasts a wonderful cast and an equally fantastic first impression from the xenomorphs.

Aliens - My personal favourite of the series, and the film that started the trend of sequels being louder and more bombastic than their originals. Aliens isn't just noise though, it pulls a perfect balance between cool 80s action and all the interesting thematic material and character work of the original. This is James Cameron in his element, and if Alien is one of my favourite sci-fi horror films, then Aliens is one of my favourite sci-fi action films. It's a shame that the franchise would never reach these heights again.

Alien 3 - Ask five people what you think of Alien 3, you'll get six different opinions. There seems to be no consensus on this film beyond the word "mixed", and generally I'm not too big a fan of this one. It's not terrible by any means, but after the insane heights of the previous two films, Alien 3 never stood a chance. If anything this film just makes me sad, especially for David Fincher. This is one of the best examples out there of how studio interference can cripple a film.

Alien: Resurrection - The film where the franchise jumped the shark and hit some stunning new depths. Resurrection was the only Alien film I hadn't seen before I bought this set, and I really wasn't missing much. The whole thing is just ugly to look at, and is so bereft of its own ideas or how to advance the series that it has to resort to coaxing Sigourney Weaver back by cloning Ripley, and for incredibly contrived reasons too. With easily the weakest roster of characters too, this isn't even saved on a "so bad it's good" basis, it's just... bad.

Prometheus - There are plenty of people who really dislike this film, and even those who think the prequels are the worst thing to happen to the Alien series. But after Alien: Resurrection, almost anything was going to come up smelling of roses. I don't mind Prometheus, and I'd probably take it over both of the last two films. It hardly restored the franchise to the quality we saw in the 70s and 80s, but it's a solid couple of hours, and I can respect it for trying something new rather than rely on Ripley.

Alien: Covenant - Again, I find this one fairly good and it does well tying together Prometheus with the more traditional Alien narrative. The return to the Alien branding and heavy promotion of the xenomorphs was definitely done in response to the ambivalence surrounding Prometheus, but it thankfully doesn't just drop everything that was set up in the last film. It's not extraordinary by any means, but I find it to be a decent continuation of the series.

So there we have the Alien films, and whatever your reason for buying this, whether it's to finally get into the series and see what it's all about, or like me just to streamline and save on shelf space, this is a collection that any film fan should have.

Visually, I can't really comment much. It's good. I don't know how it compares between DVD and 4k HDR.

What I really like, though, is that it's 6 films squeezed into a case that's roughly the size of a regular DVD case. So many box sets, these days, are the size of a house. It's a pain! Nice to have a compact film set!

5.0 out of 5 stars A recommended purchase for any fan of the series

I bought this not too long ago, and decided I would make a review, you get a lot for you money with this bundle, hands down one of the best price to content ratio's out there. You also get a digital download of every movie, which has to be redeemed before the end of 2020.

And be sure to notice that this is a region 2 blu-ray, aka Europe (go search on google for the complete list).

The discs were undamaged, the box came wrapped in heat-shrink-wrap in a padded envelope, and it seems it protected it well enough.

The only downside, as you can see in the video I have put up with this review, is that the hinges are INCREDIBLY fragile, this looks to be the case of a little too thin material to keep things in place, and when closing the box or putting the discs back into place, you have to pay attention, otherwise something will jam. I feel like the space inside the box is a bit crammed.

Pros: A lot of content, for a really good price

Cons: the cover/ box is a teeny bit fragile/ small compared to what it should be. The image in the listing is also a bit off, as it clearly shows a solid box without the actual plastic being seen, so that stood out to me instantly.

For this price, I say get it before it sells out!
