Just about everything they did was great. The Sound were cruelly overlooked and neglected in the eighties. They should have been as huge as U2.

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 March 2016Some great songs on here. I was lucky enough to see these a couple of times and they were amazing, they just didn't make it cos they didn't look right for the 80's. I loved them then and the music stands the test of time, this album really is quite amazing even now in 2016. Monument is just the most beautiful love song ever, about a monument in India FFS!
Tragedy as usual follows genius.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 November 2011We all have our pet bands, bands that not many other people have really listened to or know very much about. There are bands like Comsat Angels and The Chameleons who never achieved the fame of lesser talents. But of all of them surely it's The Sound who are the most obscure. It's a little esoteric if you've even heard of their existence.
Yet there are legions of people who shout out their talent. And it's true, they made some of the most hauntingly beautiful music of the Eighties. Some say they may have been a little derivative of Joy Division ('Where The Love Is' which is the last track of Side 1 may be a case in point, and anyway all popular music is 'derivative' - Elvis was the first to be so), but they had so much more, and it's still a great song.
'Song And Dance' (first song on Side 2) has a jazzy rock sound which is totally unique. And 'Monument' is one of the most powerful bits of music I have ever heard. All Fall Down is majestic, tuneful, melodic and timeless. Even when they sound a bit like Duran Duran on 'Calling The New Tune' it is simply a reflection of the period they were recording. This album came out a year after their considered masterpiece 'From The Lions Mouth' and in my opinion at least equals it musically.
Maybe it was because they came from a leafy suburb in the South of England, rather than some industrial wasteland up North and that their singer Adrian Borland didn't have that impoverished look that would suit a dark overcoat is why they never made it. But if you like thoughtful, inspired rock music get this CD. That is, get this CD if the record company pulls their finger out and re-releases the back catalogue. It's a crime Renascent, sort it out!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 April 2002The Sound were such critical favorites--on both sides of the Atlantic. I remember the rock critic for the New York Times (how many rock reviews do you even read there?) saying things like they and the Chameleons were the best bands making rock. And they were!
The album 'Jeopardy' is more a product of the punk era; the following 'From the Lion's Mouth' fits more with what U2 or Teardrop Explodes were doing at the time. 'All Fall Down', however, is known as a difficult or even inaccessible album.
It's not, and there are some really lovely tunes on it. But the approach is more like if Phillip Glass were to make music in a rock band. These guys played tightly, and Adrian Borland clearly wanted to push the rock medium while still keeping it rock. Amid a lot of dissonance and jarring sounds, some beautiful tunes do emerge: 'Party of My Mind' and 'Where the Love Is' and the absolutely awesome 'Monument'.
Even if you aren't a Sound completist, this album belongs in your collection along with 'Jeopardy' and 'From the Lion's Mouth'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reissue of a legendary Album
This is a really good reissue of an album I¡¯ve had since its initial release. Sound mastering is excellent and the blue vinyl is super quiet and looks great too. Might have to pick up the other two reissues since the price for these UK pressings is really quite good.
Cheers to The Sound!

5.0 out of 5 stars capolavoro della new wave
meglio in vinile ovviamente

4.0 out of 5 stars Parmi les albums de The Sound ¨¤ poss¨¦der imp¨¦rativement chez soi; album proche d'heads and hearts
Album qui n'est pas tr¨¦s ¨¦loign¨¦ de l'album "heads and hearts"; des morceaux de tr¨¨s grande qualit¨¦ en particulier : "party of the mind" tr¨¨s tr¨¨s efficace, "in suspense" qui propose un jeu de batterie exceptionnel et un refrain tr¨¨s 80, "calling the new tune" un morceau magnifique avec une basse tr¨¨s pr¨¦sente en fil conducteur, des effets agr¨¦ables et peu agressifs, une m¨¦lodie parfaite au refrain dont Adrian Borland a le secret
