    The Allman Brothers first few albums are essential for collectors of blues-based rock music. The band blow hot from the first searing notes of lead guitar on 'Don't Want You No More'. This instrumental segues into 'It's Not My Cross To Bear', with virtuoso cameos shared out. What is most impressive is how they maintain a compelling intensity and seething energy across the album. 'Trouble No More', the album's halfway house provides a little relief from this, but the last three tracks pick up the mood again, each distinctive from everything else. The organ-led 'Dreams' is strongly atmospheric and 'Whipping Post' tops everything off superbly. At just thirty-three minutes, this album leaves you hungry for more, which brings us to Idlewild South...

    The eponymous debut album by The Allman brothers band; was first released in 1969 - the year of their formation.
    I find it a very raw,energetic and enthusiastic effort by this combo of soon to be legends of 'southern rock' - a genre they invented?
    Opening instrumental track: Don't want you no more - features some outstanding guitar playing both lead and slide by Dickie Betts and Duanne Allman - respctively.Greg Allman's keyboard sound is slightly reminiscent of Santana's style (to my ears at least).
    Next track: It's not my cross to bear - We hear Dickie Betts' lead vocals for the very first time on an ABB album.his country music twanged vocals are so well suited for this band's musical style.
    No lyrics are included in this re-issue of ABB Capricorn classics - but I detect more than a leaning of lost love of strong willed women they have encountered along their 'journey'.Black hearted woman and Every hungry woman - big clues!
    T4: Trouble no more - we're treated to a superb drum passage by either one or both of the band's drummers - Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny Johnson 🥁🪇
    T6: Dreams - is the longest and most melodic of all selections on the album.very bluesy,as well as country vibes.wonderful song on the whole.
    Final/closing track: is Whipping post - another angst-ridden song regarding a lost love and the pain he's had to endure since she left him.whipping post used as a metaphor to express his true feelings.this became a favourite of the ABB live performances - check it out on the classic album Live at Filmore East!
    Fairly short in length (the studio album that is) approx 32 minutes.but succinctly crams in a hell've a lot!

    Whilst this debut album by The Allman brothers band is excellent,it's not their best.they were to elaborate with various musical styles; country,blues,rock,jazz etc on future classic albums I.E. Eat a peach and Brothers and sisters - in the not too distant future.marred by impending tragedy with the road traffic accident related deaths of Duanne Allman and Barry Oakley (bass guitarist) - outstanding on several tracks of this album.

    The re-issue package for the Allman brothers band self-titled debut long player contains; original artwork - including semi-naked photo of all band personnel in a river,full original credits and digitally remastered sound - very good it is to.
    This debut album lays bare to what the ABB were all about - and whilst not their best ever album (unusual for a debut album you could say) I still highly recommended.give it a few listens.i'm on my fifth and counting.
    PS: 4.5 stars to be more spot on with rating.

    Greg Allman (or Mr Cher) superb on organ, Duane Allman (or the man who really made Layla a hit - not the over-rated Eric Clapton) amazing slide guitar and a spectacular band made this a great album. It was the only record I ever played in a record shop where someone came up and asked me who the band was. Those were the days when you could play the vinyl record in a sound-proof booth. Everyone could hear it because it was engineered for maximum volume. Great album, great band. Shame that two of them died so young.

    Session guitarist Duane Allman was the brainchild of this six man combo. The music within grew out of a communal crash pad and intensive gigging in Macon, Ga and its surrounding regions.

    On their debut album, the Allman Brothers appropriate music that is completely black-rooted. Gregg Allman's voice is pure blues and he channels his feelings into creativity without having to think. There's no mistaking his deep growl. And Duane has no blind spots in building a song along with second guitarist, Dickey Betts. It's that fluid guitar interplay between Duane and Dickey that makes this music a new and invigorating force in blues rock. But every other band member contributes mightily to the sound. The rhythm section smokes. I especially love hearing Jaimoe's congas on "Every Hungry Woman", giving the band a subtle black-Latin flavor that drives the song.

    Gregg's original material is first-rate and is shaped by the pain and despair in life. And in the way he sings them, there just may be some autobiographical elements lurking around. The basis of "It's Not My Cross to Bear" is musically and lyrically straightforward blues and gospel. It's his determination in moving on. Duane's guitar into and his solo display a master of intricate blues chords and changes. In this performance alone, I'll take him over Eric Clapton.

    "Dreams" is spellbinding. Once again, Gregg's lyrics are sourced by the struggles of the blues and his organ drone mesmerizes you into his world of surviving. Duane already shows an advanced aptitude on slide guitar. His solo quivers with otherworldly vibrations and he offers this masterpiece a dash of psychedelia. If there's any one song on this album that gives full range of Duane's vituousity, it's "Dreams".

    Berry Oakley's bassline opening to the pub crawling "Whipping Post" rates amongst the finest in all rock. And with Duane and Dickey trading lines off of each other, it really soars. Gregg is left enough room to sing this song with real menace. It will rightly become their first anthem.

    The production isn't the greatest but he knows how to get great performances. The Allman Brothers Band turns all their energy to the music and the results found on this album are beyond gratifying.

    Am 31.08.2018 hatte ich die Rezension zum „Original Album Classics Box-Set“ der Allman Brothers Band geschrieben. Der Bluesrock-Legende schlechthin…

    Obwohl alle darin enthaltenen Alben aus neuerer Zeit stammen, aus den 90ern, bewertete ich die Sammlung als authentischen zeitlosen sehr guten Blues-Rock… Der den frühen Album in keinster Weise nachsteht. Auch wegen der absolut sehr guten Preis / Leistung diese empfehlenswerten Sets..

    Nun der Schritt zurück zum Anfang. Zum ersten Album der Allman Brothers aus dem Jahr 1969.

    Hier stimmt einfach alles. Die Rhythmus-Sektion, die sauberen Blues-Riffs und Licks, der authentische tief inbrünstige Gesang und die allgegenwärtigen schweren Hammond-Einlagen.

    Es gibt kaum was Besseres. Außer vielleicht Rory Ghallager… Der ist jedoch von der andren Seite der Welt. Die „Allmans“ sind eine US-Bluesrock-Band. Und die sollte man nicht nur kennen, sondern auch im Plattenschrank haben. Neben der oben genannten Collection ist das erste Album dieser Supergroup ebenso Pflicht. Unvergleichlich gut ! Wer meint, dass Joe Cocker (R.I.P.) der beste Blues-Sänger aller Zeiten sei… Vergesst es… Im Gegensatz zu ihm spielt hier eine richtig gewachsene Band auf, und kein Cover-Sänger ohne eigene Band…

    gehören zu den besten Bluesrock-Songs ever… Energisch und perfekt gesungen von Gregg Allman, der leider 2017 verstorben ist. Auch weitere Bandmitglieder aus wechselnden Besetzungen sind leider nicht mehr unter uns. Ich glaube, dass seit dem Tod von Gregg Allman die Band nun Geschichte ist... Tut sie Euch trotzdem an !

    Trotz des Alters der Aufnahme ist der Klang detailreich und recht transparent.. Glatte runde Empfehlung.
