I was after an extra dock for my original (i.e. non-oled version) Switch console to save unplugging and plugging in the dock that came with the console. With the recent Prime sale I saw that this was on offer and thought I would give it a try.
The dock itself has a small footprint. It fits nicely in the palm of my hand. The supporting flap folds down to protect the socket if you are taking it out with you. Connectivity is great, with the usual HDMI for connecting to a TV or monitor and USB-C for power delivery, but it also comes with a wired network (RJ45) connection. This is great for getting a reliable internet connection. All cables connect with a satisfying click that let you know they are seated properly.
There are also USB sockets on either side of the dock for connecting peripherals such as chargers and wired controllers. The base also has a gripiness to it as well, although does seem to get marked and mucky quite quickly.
Downsides...
With the original Switch docked it seemed to rest solely on the socket. There is no extra support from the dock itself, this means that the console can be "seesawed" on the bottom port which is not great. It will be interesting to see how how robust it is and long it will last. This may be due to the bottom of the oled version being different but I don't know. Whilst it's compactness is a positive it can be moved quite easily with a controller cable connected.
The final thing to mention is that if this being purchased as a secondary dock you will need to purchase an additional PSU to power it to you will need to factor in an additional £13 at least for one.
Overall a great dock with lots of connectivity, small enough to fit in tight spaces and great to tuck in a bag to take out an about.
Only concern is the robustness if the bottom connector. Would recommend
