This USB-C hub has two key advantages over other similar-looking devices that made me choose it:

1.) It outputs video at up to 4K at 60Hz (most others output 4K only up to 30Hz).
2.) It provides USB at 10Gbps (rather than only 5Gbps).

In practice it works perfectly - the multiple input possibilities and ability to still charge the device it is connected to using the USB-C PD port while in use, is great. It also appears to be robustly made and will hopefully stand the test of time.

Would highly recommend - definitely superior to other competing products and offers very strong value for money.

With laptops often using their usb-c port for charging, and usb-c ports being a rare commodity in the first place, it's been a bit of a search to try and find a hub that won't nerf the transfer speeds of my "windows to go" installed nvme drive dock, will take a mix of usb-a and c, and supports the full pd 100w standard! This device does it all! Added bonus is although I don't use it currently if I do need a quick and painless of adding an extra screen then with dock I'm covered there too!

I've not tested speeds extensively, but I can definitely say it's "fast enough" as it's handling the "windows to go" install of windows 11, I have on a nvme ssd, installed in a usb 3.2 dock, with no issues or noticeable speed degradation. That certainly makes it fast enough for me!

The fact that this only costs £15 is just the icing on the cake!

Tonight I tested two similar 4-port USB hubs (2 x USB A, 2 x USB C), with a separate port to connect a PD charger. I also checked to see if the USB C plug and sockets are “rotation invariant”—I’m glad to report that as far as data transfer rates go, it doesn’t matter which way you plug in! (Yes, that IS the way USB C is supposed to work; but, I actually tested an adapter that was >24X faster when it was plugged in with one side up than the other! I’ve read it’s because some manufacturers don’t connect all the wires. Happily, this one was done right!). Their performance is essentially identical (details on the testing below) and both are quite well made. So how to choose between them?

This one is larger (about 33% longer, a bit thicker and a bit wider); despite the size the port spacing is functionally identical—the distance of the left edge of the left most port to the right edge of the right most port is identical—but the port pattern layouts are different A C C A vs A A C C. Other than the size, the distinguishing feature on this one—not present on the other—is an HDMI port (which will function only when connected to a computer that transmits a video signal over a USB C link). Personally, I like and will use both.

The testing process: connect an NVMe SSD in a 10Gbps enclosure to a 10Gbps USB port on a PC; measure the data transfer rate. Successively plug the same SSD into each of the four USB ports on this hub while it is connected to a 10Gbps port on the computer. The cable connected to the USB enclosure is 13cm/5in long.
• cable only: ~964MB/s (that’s Big-B bytes, not little-b bits)
• all the ports tested about the same: ~913MB/s

Why the decline in bandwidth? Three possible reasons:
• the total length of the wires connecting the enclosure to the computer (via the hub) had more than doubled. It’s known that the longer a USB cable, the more attenuated the signal, but even so, I don’t think that was the primary reason.
• signal degradation due to passing through 3 connectors (instead of 2, as with the direct connection) and the hub’s circuitry, and
• (probably most significantly) overhead from the the hub’s controller chip.

Regardless, still plenty fast! Being able to trade a single USB port for four slightly slower ones can be quite desirable.

Terzo pregio: porta USB-C PD per l'alimentazione e HDMI si trovano sullo stesso lato. Molti dispositivi simili mettono la porta HDMI dal lato delle porte d'espansione, rendendo scomodissimo l'utilizzo.
