I do garden labour and these meet my needs most of them. Even some very big thorns like old Pyracantha have gone in, held fast, and barely come out the other side - just enough to poke me, not perforate my knee.
The downside is that unless your trousers fit perfectly, you often have to adjust your trouser leg to make the knee pad align properly, unlike a separate, more expensive strap-on knee pad, which should always be in place. I have tried 5 different makes of trouser with knee pad pockets in different sizes and although I found Scruffs to be the best, none of them were an ideal fit compared to a strap-on knee pad.
I am very happy with these in the garden, but on a construction site with much stabbier metal and glass etc around, I would go with something more secure.
