The success of the first collection of Goon Shows, issued on Parlohpone in 1959, prompted calls for a second volume which duly arrived in the shops in December 1960. Whilst not as big a seller as its predecessor, it still managed to hit the Top 20 of the UK charts, further proof of the enduring quality of The Goon Show.

    This CD has the same shows on it as The Best Of The Goons, so don't do what I did and buy them both (unless you want to give one away). My bad. The shows themselves are classics; the only problem is, the "outro" (end of the show) is truncated. I'm not sure why, and it makes for an abrupt ending, but even 95% of two Goons shows is better than none.

    The Best of the Goon Show Vol. 2 is sure to leave you shouting "Encore! Encore! Rhubarb.... rhubarb... rhubarb... "

    And if you've never felt the urge to shout "Rhubarb.... rhubarb... rhubarb....", then clearly you have missed the excellent opportunity to shout "Rhubarb.... rhubarb... rhubarb...." offered by Best of the Goon Shows. The obvious remedy, of course, is to buy both.

    Disappointingly, the musical interludes, which formed an essential part of The Goon Show, are missing from this and the earlier collection.

    These performances were edited for LP, and they are missing all the musical interludes*, as well as any jokes leading in or after them. Still, funny stuff!
