Product description
WE ARE NO LONGER IN CONTROL.
Michael Mann (Thief, Collateral), the acclaimed auteur celebrated for his action panache and commitment to cinematic realism, turns his hand to depicting the high-stakes world of global cybercrime in Blackhat, a contemporary, ripped-from-the-headlines twist on the espionage thriller.
Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers, Extraction) stars as Nick Hathaway, a gifted hacker currently serving a lengthy prison sentence. When a Hong Kong nuclear plant goes into meltdown after its security is penetrated, Chinese army cybersecurity captain Chen Dawai (Leehom Wang, Lust, Caution) offers his old college roommate a deal: help identify and apprehend the culprit in exchange for his own freedom. What follows is a frenetic, globe-trotting race against time to avert disaster, fraught with hidden agendas and ever-shifting loyalties.
Praised for its unusually accurate portrayal of cybersecurity, Blackhat boasts an impressive international cast, including Tang Wei (Decision to Leave), Viola Davis (The Woman King) and Yorick van Wageningen (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), and showcases one of cinema’s finest filmmakers bringing the skills he honed during a long and storied career to bear on a distinctly 21st-century phenomenon.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 May 2024This is the best version of Blackhat you'll ever get. It comes with not only the US and International cuts on UHD disc, but also the incredibly rare Directors Cut on Blu-ray.
If in any doubt about the passion that Arrow Films has for their film releases, when fans poured their hearts out to Arrow about the lack of inclusion of the Directors Cut on the release, Arrow delayed the film for months so that fans could get all 3 x versions of the film in one package.
If you're worrying about the quality difference in the Directors cut only being on Blu-ray then don't! It looks fantastic, and has been encoded in a high quality bitrate that makes this less known version of the film shine!
Packed to the gills with extras, it's a must for Michael Mann fans.
And yes, the film holds up really really well. Watching the directors cut for the first time was like watching the film for the first time. It's punchy and thrilling as you'd expect from the guy that brough you Heat.

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 November 2024Arrow as usual doing a solid 4k transfer of the theatrical versions (both the US & international versions onnthe same disc (there is very little difference between the two). The second disc is not 4k, just regular blu ray, and contains the director’s cut (largely the same but scenes are in a different order they were originally intended to be, and makes much more sense. It’s a shame they did not make the director’s cut 4k as it will likely be the only version i will watch fro: now on.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 July 2024I first saw this movie on a you tube trailer, and I liked what I Was watching, which is why I ordered it from غ UK. I can honestly say that I was not disappointed, in fact what great movie to watch. If you have ever wondered how easy it is to hack into things, then watch this movie, and don't worry there is plenty of action that goes with this movie. For me this was a must have I my library.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 March 2016Before watching this I was surprised to see that Blackhat is much maligned, and has a really poor reviews on IMDB. In general I like Michael Mann’s work, and even if he has never quite reached the heights of Heat or Last of the Mohicans in recent years, I’ve enjoyed most of his movies.
Blackhat is a movie which I immediately liked, but as the story progressed I found myself getting more and more frustrated. Firstly, this has all of Mann’s trademark quirks – digital photography with crushed blacks and excessive grain which are entirely artistic decisions, and dialogue levels which are often too low.
Personally I don’t mind the look of the movie, and the dialogue issues weren’t as bad as some of his other movies (see Public Enemies and Miami Vice); the problem for me was that the movie was miscast and the plot had too many silly moments.
It’s slow paced, and when the action does happen it’s again signature Mann – ear splitting gun fire where you feel like every bullet is real, and an intenseness that works despite falling short of the seminal Heat robbery shootout.
This isn’t as bad as many reviews that I’ve read, but neither is it a memorable movie. With too many flaws, namely a lack of coherence, logic and chemistry/believability of the characters, this sits firmly in the “watch once, and maybe not at all” category.

5.0 out of 5 stars Abstract, artsy and certainly not for everyone: another great Michael Mann movie!
Like Michael Mann's Miami Vice from 2006 which everybody hated this movie also breaks with conventions and takes a very different approach. It sure has it's weaknesses with some lenghts and a story that is difficult to access. But as Michael Mann usually does he crafts his own universe around the protagonists and creates a unique experience by that. The film has a fascinating look and the soundtrack is also great (contrary to the discussion before the movies initial release!), the actors also deliver properly. I can understand that Blackhat probably is not on par with Heat or Collateral which were also directed by Michael Mann but I find the bad Imdb-ratings and all the internet hate this film receives to be completely unjustified. I also had my problems with the movie while watching it for the first time. From the second time on however I started to really embrace the movie and I had the same process with Michael Mann's Miami Vice movie from 2006 which I couldn't grasp in cinema and then absolutely fell in love with watching it numerous times at home. So, I recommend the same to anyone reading this, I have begun to really appreciate this movie and I guess like many other Mann films in the future this will be viewed as a classic. The BD is great by the way and a great reproduction of Mann's intention. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars TROPPO SOTTOVALUTATO
Grandissimo film di Mann. Macchina a mano e ritmo serrato.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hacker total

5.0 out of 5 stars Typische Michael Mann Atmosphäre
