Written by Spike Milligan as a parody of the film The Bridge On The River Kwai, the recording was based around an earlier Goon Show entitled The African Incident. Shortly before the album was due for release, the distributors of the film threatened an injunction if the full name was used. Producer George Martin (later of The Beatles fame) therefore sat and edited the letter k out of every utterance, thus creating Bridge On The River Wye. The recording features Spike alongside Goon Show regular Peter Sellers as well as Jonathan Miller, Peter Cook, Peter Rawley and Patricia Ridgway, with incidental music composed and directed by Wally Stott. Although considered part of the Goon Show lexicon, Bridge On The River Wye was never aired on radio or performed in front of an audience; this is best enjoyed on record.

I remember listening to this on vinyl when it was first released, and I was a little worried as one's perception of humour changes over time, however, this did not disappoint, it was a funny as ever with some brilliant interpretations of the main characters of the film of a similar name.
I had this on vinyl when I was a boy back when it first came out, I still have it but nothing to play it on. I played it so many times I could recite the entire script compete with all the voices (look out Peter Sellers). It was written by the genius that is Spike Milligan and featured the talents of Peter Sellers, Jonathan Miller and Peter Cook along with Spike. It's a skit on the then popular film Bridge on the River Kwai in the style of the Goon Show, if your a fan of that wonderful radio programe then this is for you.
It doesn't say it in the booklet but I believe it was produced by the late great George Martin before he discovered The Beatles.
