Product description
Screen legends Charles Bronson (Breakheart Pass, The Valdez Horses) and Jack Palance (Attack, Monte Walsh) star in a magnificent western as wild and untamed as the Old West itself. Bristling with dynamic action sequences and riveting performances, Chato's Land is a bold, sweeping tale of passion, vengeance and cold-blooded murder. Chato (Bronson) is a half-breed Apache who treads the line between two cultures, balancing allegiance to his tribe with the allure of the white man's world. But when Chato kills a vicious sheriff in self-defence, he finds himself hunted by a posse led by the ruthless Quincey (Palance), a former Confederate soldier who is determined to see him hang. it's 13 men against one, but the odds shift in Chato's favour when he leads his pursuers into Apache territory, where the harsh, cruel countryside can kill as surely as a gunman's bullet. Bronson's first of six collaborations with director Michael Winner (The Mechanic, Death Wish), this touch, uncompromising western also features James Whitmore (Madigan), Simon Oakland (TV's Kolchak: The Night Stalker), Richard Basehart (Time Limit), Ralph Waite (The Grissom Gang), Richard Jordan (Valdez Is Coming) and Victor French (Rio Lobo).

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 June 2021The DVD took quite long to arrive (however, it was scheduled as a longer delivery).
Often when I order old DVDs, I can clearly see the packaging is poor: poor printing and unprofessional looking (which also leads me to believe the DVD is not "official"). For this "Chato's Land", the boxing was neat and tidy - right, proper printing. The DVD worked first time as it went into the DVD player. It was a gift for my grandfather and he is extremely happy with it!
Just note: the writing is in German, as well as the initial language. However, there is an option for English voicing. I did not read the description properly and was slightly caught off-guard by the German. Luckily my limited German helped me find the English!

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 May 2019This is one of my all time favourite westerns. I really like the characters and their dialogue from the red-neck Americans through to the Scots trying to carve out a living in a new and harsh environment. Charles Bronson as Chato has very few lines but as the half-breed Indian he shows his great presence as usual. It is a very racist film depicting narrow minded people treating other races with contempt but it also has slight touches of humour. It's a Hollywood film but it's interesting to see the difference in survival skills and guile between people who have always lived in that type of environment and newcomers.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 March 2018Brilliant film ,one of the best films Charles Bronson made, a classic and will always be one of the best ever made.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 July 2021A vigilante gang track a mixed-race Indian intent on lynching him, or worse. Terrific western.
Two great movie stars at their peak:
Charles Branson and Michael Winner.
Winner gave movies violent realism which most directors failed to do, consequently most DVD issues of this movie suffer from several cuts, but this German release rated FSK 16 is intact and much more enjoyable.
Also stars the great Jack Palance.

5.0 out of 5 stars i own the film, and have seen it several times
chato's land is unusal in that the gist of the film is on bigotry and racist towns people
set on MURDER after chato shoots the bigot sheriff in self defense after the sherriff
threatens to shoot chato chato then leads a "posse" read that as a murder party into
the desert bad lands where he is at home this murder party of whites attacks chato's family
rapes his wife and murders his son chato goes on the war path and stalks and kills most
of the "possee" a fate they well deserve the ones that chato doesn't kill the harsh
desert does through thirst and starvation if you see it the filf is about vengence.
the more mature viewers will get the gist of the film the youg will miss the point all together
an interesting film a bit macabre though

5.0 out of 5 stars Charles Bronson in Bestform
