Technology and sexuality meet in a head\-on collision in Crashdirector David Cronenbergs controversial adaptation of writer J.G. Ballards hugely transgressive 1973 novel starring James Spader and Holly Hunter. Spader stars as James Ballard, a film producer whose deviant sexual desires are awakened by a near fatal automobile accident with Dr. Helen Remington (Hunter). Soon the pair, alongside Ballards wife Catherine (Deborah Kara Unger), are drawn into an underground world of car crash fetishism presided over by renegade scientist Vaughan (Elias Koteas). Danger, sex and death become entwined as eroticism and technology join together in a disturbing, deadly union. Awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival for originality, daring and audacity, Crash remains an incredibly subversive and confrontational piece of cinemaCronenberg himself describes it as a dangerous filmnow refurbished in a stunning 4K restoration. Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on ÍøÆغÚÁÏ. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Arrow have done a great job restoring the film itself however, Crash is a deeply flawed film suffering from wooden acting, as well as an unmotivated (and at times nonsensical) plot. It is my opinion that this work is esteemed solely because of how grotesque some of the acts portrayed in the film are.
