Product description
After leaving the Virgin label, and a one-off album with Chrysalis, Simple Minds took stock and decided to make records for themselves. After an album of cover versions of songs dear to Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, "Neon Lights", was released in October 2001, the band went straight back into the studio to record an album of new compositions. "Cry" was released in April 2002, and was recorded in Glasgow, with further recordings made in Sicily with Italian musicians. It features the hit single "Cry" as well as "Spaceface", "New Sunshine Morning" and "One Step Closer". Pressed on 180 gram gold vinyl.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 September 2014Cry is a truly underrated album. It was also the last album I collected to complete my simple minds collection, and I am certainly glad I didn't decide to overlook it. Within is a subliminal relaxation of a chilled out entoire:- which is perhaps a diametrically opposite direction to the one taken with the straight-up/hard rock sound on the, "Good news from the next world" album. There are also a couple of funky and experimental sound effects within these inclusions too, which for the most part is most complimentary.
I must say, apart from the linear opener, I was thoroughly intoxicated with these songs from start-to-finish. So a highly refreshing and unpredictable experience is the order of the day with this one; I can't say any particular song stood out to me from the get-go, but I did find myself comfortable with a track-by-track playthrough. "Disconnected" is perhaps the most unusual type of song from the band. A common theme throughout the album is hooks and pop sensibility a-plenty. Far from a straight down the line approach; It is most definately worth a listen for the lazy days.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 July 2021Jim Kerr's solo album, Lostboy is just about as much of a Simple Minds album as this is. Where's Charlie? A couple of co-writes do not make a Simple Minds album. Maybe he had some personal thing going on outside the band, but he and Jim have been together for so long that surely Jim would have waited? Don't know what's going on here. In itself, it's not a bad record, but it's not a necessary one either. Do what everybody else says and get Graffiti Soul and Black And White 050505 instead. If you like this, you'll be wanting the Lostboy album too - it's not a bad record, but guess what - it's not essential either.

Trust me, this is an excellent album. Some reviewers have been very critical of it. If you're a long-time Simple Minds fan like me – and trust me I have a large collection of imports and hard-to-find versions of released media – this album is a must to have in the collection. Cry is fantastic! New Sunshine Morning, Spaceface, and Sleeping Girl are fine tracks too. One Step Closer rocks the house too. Plus, as a rare import, it has wonderful packaging as well and of excellent quality. Just buy it and enjoy!
Oh, BTW > this item was not used - it was new and shrink wrapped so a bonus!
