Wow. Just wow.

Wow. Just wow.
So I have loads of different rations of this album including the previous 5.1 BluRay. This Atmos mix is really great, expanding the sound stage so it’s spacious and less oppressive than before without sounding sparse. Beautiful stuff. The packaging is great as well. Only disappointing bit is the screen image is a static prism image where as previous BluRays have had changing images. Small gripe only though so no big deal.

As a long-time fan of The Dark Side of The Moon, I was excited to experience the 50th Anniversary Atmos Remix, and I can honestly say it didn’t disappoint. This remix breathes new life into an album that many of us have already played countless times, offering a fresh, immersive listening experience while still staying true to the original’s brilliance.

The Atmos mix adds a whole new dimension, especially if you have a surround sound setup or good-quality headphones. The sound feels like it’s swirling around you, enhancing the depth and separation of each instrument. Tracks like “Time” and “Money” have even more punch and clarity, with each note and effect standing out in ways I hadn’t fully appreciated before. Vocals are crystal clear, and the iconic sound effects (like the cash registers in “Money”) are placed perfectly in the soundscape.

One thing to note is that while the Atmos remix is amazing, if you’re looking for a completely different take on the album, this might not be it. The remix doesn’t drastically change the songs but enhances what was already there, which is exactly what I wanted.

If you’re a fan of the original album and have the right equipment to take advantage of the Atmos mix, this anniversary edition is a must-have. It brings new layers to an already phenomenal album, making it worth experiencing again.

I have the 192/24 stereo version and this ATMOS take on it is refreshing.

I dont have many ATMOS discs but this one is the demo i would use especially time and one the run for the immediate impact of ATMOS.

There are some vivid memories I have as a child , one of them was of my dad setting up his Quad 33/303 music system.
I remember those super heavy oddly coloured slabs meticulously placed in position before my dad wheeled in two huge EMI speakers.
Then he unpacked his thorn record player....the jewel as he referred to it.
I remember tales of how he saved and saved for this system and the crates and crates of records he had stacked next to it .
There was one particular album I can remember him playing and playing loud and it was this!
I remember sitting there with him the thick cloud of cigar smoke hanging above my head ,
The tinkering of the ice against his scotch glass each time he took a sip of his Bells whiskey
My dad had a difficult life but those moments I remember him happy and calm eyes closed as I sat with him.... I have my own system now that can play Atmos .... I can't think of anything more to say except my dad would have marveled at what this album now sounds like ....the mix is phenomenal nothing taken away but every instrument and vocal has it's place around you .
    Truly an amazing listening experience!

The Blu-Ray audio next generation for music companies to cash in on past albums is here and they need to get as many albums as possible out on this format. It sounds like Pink Floyd are in your own front room playing live for you. Perfection!!!!!

The best surround mix of any album I have ever heard. The quality and clarity of this Dolby Atmos Blu-ray is quite simply astonishing.

This is a very different way of listening to this classic album and TBH, I was not enthralled about the SACD version - although this is ‘up there’ in terms of quality and the mix compared to others. The Blu-ray however, takes everything up several notches and fully exploits the multichannel format - I have had my Atmos system for over 5 years and the Atmos speakers have never sounded as clear and pronounced as this. There is also an excellent balance between all the speakers which makes the sound very immersive.

Not surprisingly, the stand out track is On The Run followed by Money and Brain Damage. Any Colour You Like is the ‘weakest’ as it sounds slightly muddled but I imagine this wasn’t an easy track to mix as multichannel. Everything else is excellent and I love that parts of this mix highlight the sound, instruments, effects and spoken word very differently to the original mix. My only gripe is that the graphics on the display could have been a bit more creative although I usually switch it off once I have navigated the menu.

I hope there will be further individual Blu-ray releases of Floyd albums!

The only proprietary 'Dolby' licenced multi-channel mix is the Atmos one, though this will downmix to anything Dolby & probably sounds spectacular at the planetarium shows, or in Brian Eno's 54 speaker object based home cinema system.
For mostly everyone else using a non-Atmos player it's going to downmix to Dolby 7.1 True HD at best. However you do get a brilliant bonus Dolby Atmos coded speaker placement track, in the speaker placement section, of the disk setup which will enable you to test your setup!
The track details and individually identifies a 7.1.4 'Atmos' speaker placement combo: so standard 5.1 together with 2 side speakers and 4 ceiling ones. Remember though, just cos you own a device that can render Atmos (like your iPhone) doesn't mean it can output it as Atmos, or anything close, and finally you get to test it.
Not hearing anything up near the ceiling from your allegedly room-acoustic algorithm adjustin' up-firing 'Atmos' soundbar and 2 mini satellites rears? This track will nail that, as yet another marketing gimmick.

Happily you also get a Hi Def Linear PCM 5.1 remix and a separate 24/192 LPCM Stereo remaster.
As well as the highlight of the remix sets for those who don't have the full Son et Lumiere Eno-esq setup: the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 remix, which sounds spectacular using a 6 speaker 5.1 surround system.
As well the DTS-HD MA stereo remaster.

This all in a very complete and satisfying pack with stickers and a booklet.

If this is anything to go by I'm very much looking forward to the blu ray of Wish You Were Here.... :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars A good remastering of a great group

Some re releases of the Dark Side of the Moon was pretty bad where they over sample the original master recording to the point it sounded so different. This release even as a CD format sounds as good as some master recordings on vinyl that cost 10x more. If you have a good system you can clearly hear the clarity and soundstage of the master recording and the instruments just comes alive. Is it the best release of Dark Side of the Moon no..That is SACD release of MOFI but this comes very close.

The good is the combination of HQ Vinyl and Dolby Atmos Blu-ray - the official songbook with notes and chords as well as lyrics an added bonus and the Black & White full size photograph hardcover book is also cool. The not so much is the repetative discs - seems like they made several discs with exactly the same content - still trying to figure out blu-ray/DVD content - but the ATMOS and UHD stereo is incredible albiet could have been contained one just one Blu-ray - missing are any outakes or different versions of cuts like you got in the Immersion release a few years ago - you do get the live album both on CD and Vinyl.
Note: This Box set weighs a TON.... The packaging is the best I have ever seen on a box set - all discs are in separate slipcases so no discs flopping around at bottom of box so no disc scratching - what a relief - I had to send back my Wish you were here Immersion for that reason (scratched discs). The "Single" records in the size of a 45 RPM but with the smaller 33 1/3 RPM spindle holes are cool. Wall Posters look authentic to originals included with original Vinyl release back in 72 (I have it somewhere) & records are heavy gauge, not warped & perfect.. And like I said - the packaging can withstand a nuclear bomb - quadruple boxed... Is it worth the $$$$ - If you are a Pink Floyd Lover and want the ATMOS Mix (the only mix that comes close is the SACD DSD 5.1 surround from 2003 - played on a REAL DSD player not a DSD to PCM decoder.)

Added on 5/11/23: I wanted to clarify my last comment comparing the 2003 SACD 5.1 DSD encoded surround mix and the new Dolby ATMOS mix. What I meant to say was the 2003 DSD 5.1 SACD surround mix was the best multi-channel Surround Mix until the new Dolby ATMOS Surround mix found on the 50th Anniversary set only - both are excellent - but the ATMOS is superior assuming you have a properly equipped true Dolby ATMOS setup - meaning a Blu-ray player and surround sound processor that support and can decode the Dolby ATMOS format along with the appropriate number of speakers correctly positioned as per the Dolby ATMOS recommendations. My system uses an Oppo UDP 203 4K BluRay, DVDV, DVDA, SACD, DSD, CD etc... player, an Emotiva RMC-1 Surround Processor supporting Dolby ATMOS, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus, 5.1, 7.1 PCM & True DSD & DSD over PCM etc.. 3 high powered Subwoofers, main Def Tech (7) speakers powered by 300 Watt / channel amps & 4 10" Toshiba Ceiling speakers (front & Rear ATMOS) @ 100 Watts/channel. High Resolution Audio up 32 Bit @ 384 KBPS by comparison a standard CD is 16 Bit @ 44.1 KBPS audio resolution - Dark Side of the Moon - besides the remixed standard CD there are 5 High Definition mixes of the entire album on the 2 Blu-Ray Discs 1) Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 Mix, 24 Bit/96 KHz per channel 2) Stereo Mix DTS HD-MA 3) Surround 5.1 Mix DTS HD-MA 4) Stereo Mix 24 Bit /192 KHz uncompressed 5) Surround 5.1 Mix 24 Bit /96 KHz uncompressed.

DSD via SACD discs has been around for around 30+ years. SACDs were typically packaged as multi-layer discs with a regular CD quality copy of the album included with the High Definition DSD content so that the SACD could be played on regular CD players but when played on a SACD/DSD equipped disc player and a Receiver/Processor that could decode DSD (in either PCM format or True DSD - BEST Quality!) - you would hear the difference whether the DSD copy is in UHD Stereo Audio and/or a 5.1 UHD surround copy of the Album. Some SACDs contained all 3 formats of an Album, Standard CD, DSD UHD Stereo and DSD UHD 5.1 Surround. A fantastic format that unfortunately (like DVD-Audio) did not catch on- more popular in Japan and Europe - the special hardware / software required to read the disc (special laser required in player) and then decode the disc (Processor) - further complicated by copyright protection requirements & licensing for the software and integration - companies like Oppo just added all these formats SACD and DVD-Audio which used the entire capacity of a DVD disc most allocated for video, to expand Audio capacity to support not only bit streamed multi-channel encoded formats like Dolby Surround and DTS MA-HD but also totally uncompressed full bandwidth PCM up to 7.1 uncompressed PCM Audio (Dolby and DTS have some compression using their proprietary encoding/decoding format). SACD used the DSD encoding/decoding to get 5.1 (not sure if it goes up to 7.1) but a very pure and balanced sound with most manual adjustments locked out from user as they did not want the user to mess with their protocol by changing the levels or tone equalization on an individual channel basis, similar to Dolby Atmos - you are locked out from many individual channel fine tuning as the Dolby immersion software does that for you. I hope that streaming does not make obsolete physical media like the BluRay disc - there is no comparison IMHO between a Dolby Atmos Audio only or Audio/Video (e.g. a movie encoded with Atmos sound) on disc vs the same content via streaming.. No Matter how fast your connection is there is always lag and to prevent "complaints from users who bother to report this" the streaming service content providers add COMPRESSION to both the Soundtrack and the Video - so you are not getting the same picture and sound streaming as you do running the disc locally - especially with quality equipment using hardwires to connect the components (not wi-fi). Much better picture and sound.
