I have always preferred Bowie in the early years up to Diamond Dogs, thereafter I think the music was less innovative and less rock orientated.
This album may be considered little strange by some Bowie devotees, but it shows how his music and persona was developing, before exploding later into the Ziggy phenomenon.
It is certainly worth a listen, by any Bowie fan, and as an album it marks the subtle changes that made him what he was.

I always knew that this stuff existed, but I hadn't expected it to contain such variety and be so interesting. The album seems to present the artist's struggle to establish style and identity (Anthony Newley, Scott Walker, The Monkees, Lou Reed..?) and make the breakthrough to sucess that eventually arrived with Space Oddity; interesting for the who artist who invented "re-inventing himself"! There are some beutifull tracks and some downright weird and creepy ones. Certain distressing themes recur in the work and it would be most interesting if Mr. Bowie would produce a frank autobiography of this period. Too much good stuff to list in detail, but "Little Bombedier" and "Let Me Sleep Beside You" are currently my personal favourites.

I am not a David Bowie Fan but I liked his earlier music the laughing Gnome and Uncle Arthur, in the later years David Bowies music became more serious. But he had to move with the times, I liked some of his later music like Boys keep swinging and Dancing in the Streets which are not on this album, David was one of the first singers to paint his face and make himself up, I am 51 and when he was doing this it was weird in my day as men only wore a ear wing in the left ear and women where not ladies if they drunk out of a pint glass in a pub, but today all this is classed as normal but David may remember himself what it was like and it would of been hard for him a coming star, but there is no doubt as the years have gone on I have learnt to respect his music and enjoy listening to some of his songs, on this album is Space oddity which started the change in his music, but this Album is his earlier stuff which I remember listening to when I was young.

I have the "Images" album which was a German import on vinyl. That as far as I know is not available on CD but thankfully all the tracks on that are on this. I loved "Images". The story each song tells from his early years are wonderful. If I Could have met David Bowie I would love to have asked him what his inspiration was when writing these songs. Other than London boys of course which is self explanatory. Vocally you can see his admiration for Anthony Newley which suits the songs well. I have been a Bowie fan since 1969 and these selections of songs have always been some of my favourite compositions of his. A must get for all fans of the late but great David Bowie.

I bought "Images" back in the early '70s as a vinyl double album but as my turntable has been in the attic for some time, I thought I'd get it on CD. This has all of the tracks from "Images" plus additional (slightly different) versions of some of them and a couple of additional tracks ("Ching-a-Ling" is pretty dire - I can see why it never previously saw the light of day - but the early version of "Space Oddity" is interesting).

All in all a great buy.

Bought to complete my collection of the late great man. It covers most if not all of his early work recorded for Deram before heading to new more exotic pastures. A mixture of somewhat twee and some more interesting songs makes this an important insight into Bowie as he struggles to find his place in the pop universe. An occasional listen but when you're in the mood quite enjoyable for the most part and at a bargain price for the double cd.

Bowie,s voice is really good and strong and the music is representative of the late sixties.... Il y a longtemps (genre:30 ans...sic!) j'avais ramené de mon 1er voyage à Londres quelques "curiosities" en K7 audio, dans le but (entre autres plaisirs auditifs personnels) de suggérer à quelques demoiselles ne me laissant pas insensible ( ce qui , d'un point de vue critères de choix,est très général, à 20 ans!) de venir écouter ça ( "je te jure, c'est trop cool !")à la cité U (voire au fond des bois, dans la deuche...ou chez elles!), histoire de passer un moment (dont, vous l'aurez compris, j'attendais bien plus!).
Eh ben, ça a pas mal marché du tout, cet album du jeune David Bowie, comme fond sonore ! De loin le meilleur, côté romantique et suave! (faut dire que les autres "curiosities", c'était les Clash et les Sexpistols...et autres essais punkoïdes)

Et puis, les années ont passé, mes goûts en matière de demoiselles à séduire se sont limités à celle qui partage encore ma vie, le CD a envahi nos étagères, les K7 ont terminé au grenier ...
Tous 2 fans de Bowie, nous avons découvert ses albums successifs...et il a fallu que David BOWIE s'en aille retrouver Ziggy et le Major Tom au firmament pour que nous décidions de compléter la collection de CD.
Nous avons donc retrouvé avec émotion ces chansonnettes, dans un anglais compréhensible et bourré d'humour (Uncle Arthur/She's got medals/Mr gravedigger...) et de tendresse.
Pas du "Bowie superstar", avec des rythmes et vocalises recherchés, mais très plaisant à écouter...genre , au niveau humour et tendresse gouailleux (qui trompent rarement quant à la carrière future), les premiers albums de notre Renaud/Renard national.
Nous, on adore!
