As usual liked some tracks immediacy others took a bit of time. love them all now you have to listen to the lyrics! I am going to get the rest of their albums in the order they were released just so I can see the evolution of this good band.
Being of a decent age, I grew up, musically-speaking, with Post Punk, so my preferences haven't changed much since i was into The Cure, Joy Division, Gang of Four, etc etc. I got deeply into sort of lo-fi in the mid 90s, and stuck firmly with my Pavement, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and Grandaddy loves, with occasional relistens to my old stuff. Now, with Fontaines DC I have it all in one magnificent little CD. Shades of The Cure (Pornography-era) and Joy Division bass, chiming guitars (Pavement Wowie Zowie-era), crisp drumming (ummm), plaintive, unaffected singing and excellent lyrics with a bite to them, whether about global warming or local Dublin characters. I cannot remember the last album that I needed to listen to so often, and missed it badly if I hadn't heard it for a few days. The only regret I have is getting into them too late to secure tickets without paying some scalping scvmbag triple price on Stubhub. Serves me right. Buy this and immerse yourself in the earworms. You won't regret it.
Dogrel is the best debut album since Arctic Monkeys The Strokes and The Stone Roses. I have listened to the album at least 100 times since buying it and it gets better with every listen. The album opens with a statement of intent by predicting that they are going to be “Big” and if there’s any justice in the world they will “make a lot of money “ in the near future. It’s hard to pick out a favourite track as they are all so strong but Liberty Belle and Roy’s Tune are 2 of my favorites. I love Grian’s vocals and the drummer is amazing. Definitely feel it will figure in all Best of 2019 lists. Buy it! You won’t be disappointed!!
Great debut album. They say they’re are influenced by The Libertines and The Strokes. I hear Joy Division, The Fall, The Smiths and The Pogues. Some great riffs and lyrics - ‘an idiot is someone who lets education do their thinking.’ Many more like this on the album.
Purchased this after seeing an Instagram post from Alan McGee. Had a quick listen to what was on Insta and purchased this about 30 seconds later - no further endorsement nor listening required.
Brilliant debut, great band and thankfully, there's more bands like them finally getting the recognition/coverage that they deserve - no autotune, no studio shenanigans with bands in a box etc. This is real music made by real people and it sounds how I want my music to sound.
This album has the lot! Attitude, sincerity and true grit. To come up with new music is hard to do in this day and age and Fontains dc have done it. A cross between punk , heavy rock Irish folk it has the lot. No skipping through this album, every track a gem. Will end up being a classic in yeas to come.
Pedí Dogrel junto con A Hero's Death; dos álbumes asombrosos que posicionan a Fontaines D.C. como una de las mejores bandas de la actualidad y una que sin lugar a duda vale la pena escuchar. En cuanto al envío: ambos discos llegaron en muy buen estado y a tiempo.
Ho conosciuto questo gruppo poche settimane fa con la canzone In ár gCroíthe go Deo (contenuta nell'album Skinty fia, acquistato per primo) ed è stato colpo di fulmine! Esordio punk con rimandi ai Ramones e un omaggio ai Pogues nella bellissima ballata Dublin city Sky. Dieci e lode!
Genial primer disco debut, todos los temas que contiene son buenos o muy buenos. Puede ser una losa para el grupo, pues de momento los Fontaines dc ni se acercan a este disco con sus trabajos posteriores.
