- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 February 2024This is Flanders and Swan at their best. What more can I say? It brought back wonderful memories.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 November 2023Prompt service and delivery, a great choice of rare recordings
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2013Ah Flanders & Swann!
How I love to re-discover them to save me from tedium.
Not forced, but just an insouciant release of their proverbial headgear. What can we say except, oh where are they now, when our need is greater than ever. I have loved this stuff from early childhood and it has to be said, that period in my life is far from adjacent now.
The Hippopotamus (three 'p's, two 'o's, an 'h', an 'i', a 't' and an 'amus') brought tears to my eyes, although the audience might have joined in with more gusto, even after paying a shilling for the programme.
Precious laughter for ours and future generations who might appreciate intelligence and wit.

This is sheer joy! I came to know these men in my childhood via the Radio, and then forgot - except of course for the Hippopotamus Song, which I sang to my children.
I was thrilled to find them again on CD. Such wit and beautifully-crafted words brought instant happiness. Every word counts and fits perfectly. The observations on life are brilliant, and life doesn't change much in essence. There should br a revival of popularity for this pair!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 May 2012I used to have the origional 75 records of F & W's collaborations but over time they went the way olf all flesh. Until I was present at a Probus Dinner when two of the guests combined to resurrect some of their past favourites. This stimulated me to immediately get on to ÍøÆغÚÁÏ and buy the two I PARTICULARLY WANTED - tHIS ONE AND "THE bEST OF F & W". from the latter , don't miss " a SONG OF PATRIOTIC PREJUDICE . It is a howl!!.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 December 2020This is a CD version of the original Parlophone pre-recorded tape, which isn't quite the same as the later performance originally on vinyl and transferred to the CD in the three-disc boxed set. I happen to prefer this version (which I remember from childhood) and thoroughly enjoyed having it available again.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 April 2021I have clung onto 2 cassettes of this performers who are no more. So many of their pieces are well known classics such as The Gas Man Cometh. So pleased to find a CD

5.0 out of 5 stars There's No Place Like Home Sweet Home
I was maybe five or six when I first heard Flanders and Swann's At The Drop of a Hat, and always loved it immensely. I come from English stock and was able to appreciate the English brand of humor. Years later, I bought the complete Flanders and Swann which did not contain the original Fortune Recording from 1960, but rather an uninspired sounding remake with Vanessa and The Center Court. It did not contain The Public May Leave. I was very disappointed. I was so delighted when I received this cd and found it to be The Original Fortune recording as I had listened to as a kid. The Public May Leave is there on The Hippopotamus Song Track. This was George Martin before we ever heard of The Beatles. All the fun, charm and wit is here once again. Very much like years later when I heard Tom Lehrer's albums. Thanks! Just what I had hoped for. Folks. If you're looking for the original At The Drop of a Hat recorded at The Fortune in 1960, this is the one

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!
This recording is hilarious!
The British accents require some effort to understand, and there are a few truly obscure references, but overall the show is still quite amusing for American audiences.
I think that the program is very similar to the circa 1960 LP album, which did not have the encore, however.
Regrettably, the liner notes from the original LP album are missing, although the cover shot was preserved.
NOTE:
The performance includes 13 listed songs, plus an encore, and is presented all as one long cut, so if you want to listen to any particular song you will need to skip to time points which you have derived, manually -- the individual song timings are not shown on the jacket.

5.0 out of 5 stars so you may have to study a bit of history to enjoy it. At least one of the songs on ...
This is an album of comedy songs recorded live in England decades ago. I first heard it in the late sixties, and have wanted a copy ever since. Now I have it! It is reminiscent of the type of music created by Tom Leherer in the same era, though not nearly as political. The humor is subtle and timely for that era, so you may have to study a bit of history to enjoy it.
At least one of the songs on this album was performed by an American folk group in the early sixties.
