I am by no means a doomsday prepper. Just an ordinary person doing an ordinary job. However given the dangerous world we are now living in and having had a serious power black out in my home town this winter, I thought it would be sensible to have something with me to have within easy reach for another civil emergency either relatively trival like the power black out caused by a genuine electrical fault or for something more sinister like a terrorist attack.
This grab bag is a good start. It is pretty comprehensive and has a lot of things to keep you going for a day or two should it come to that. I would however add a few things, such as waterproof matches, a set of portable two way radios, a more comprehensive first aid kit, a tent and a portable cooker. Those sort of things. However I can these things as I go along.
One thing I did find amusing in a pawky sense/black humour was space for one's iPod and headphones. I did not plan on listening to Coldplay's Fix You whilst the world around you is in chaos!
Still I am glad I invested in this. Hopefully I wont have to use it, but would rather have this in my house for those just in case moments. I wont be digging myself an underground bunker anytime soon however! But I do think these days an emergency back pack like this is a necessity and not just an alarmist/paranoid act. In fact I would seriously suggest that the Government did a public information film/advert advising people to be prepared with something like this. Because when the going gets tough, it will be up to you to look after yourself, the Government wont be able to cater for everyone.
