- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 July 2014Bought two to climb Mt Fuji in Japan as a backup. Got to the top before sunrise and it was about 0oC. I climbed into mine carefully trying not to rip it on the volcanic rock and it worked. I was not hot but protected and felt stable and sheltered. After about 30min condensation on the inside started to form and I decided to get up to set up my camera. Almost immediately my teeth were chattering so there you have it. I did not get hot but I did retain a lot more of my body heat than if I did not have it. My photo from the top of Mt Fuji is @ www.greattravelphotos.com. Now the hard part. On getting out of the bag the two of us both ripped it standing up. Also it will not fit back into the bag. So this is probably a one time use item. It is light and strong and not so expensive. I was happy to have carried two and will reorder - enough said. 5 stars from me.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 January 2014Can't give 5 stars as I haven't used it, but it appears to be heavier duty than your basic foil blanket.
It's actually a bit smaller and lighter than the description, which is nice. weighs in at 180g and will squeeze down to under 30mm thick.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 May 2013Havent used it. Hope I never have to...but judging from (the unopened) product in hand its exactly what I was hoping it would be.
Update: carried this for months in my backpack. Got caught atop a hill in a serious cloud burst, no cover nearby. By the time I had gotten my rain gear out I as soaked. Made it to a wooded area and got under some cover but was freezing cold. Broke out the foil blanket......was warm in no time. Half an hour under a tree would have been miserable without it......if I had to do a longer period it would have kept me warm whilst I got set up with a fire etc. This blanket is stronger than the cheap ones you can buy in discount stores so does not rip like you may expect of this type of product. It's a better standard than the c hea pe r options and could be set up as an emergency tarp at a push. Buy it, stick it in your bag and you can be confident that it does what it needs to if you ever need it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 May 2016Pricey for what it is, but it is a good robust quality, and will serve in many scenarios. Took ages to be delivered too.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 December 2014Not opened, as it's for emergency purposes (hence 4 star). Tightly packed, and heavier than the typical foil blanket (as a bag ought to be). So far, so good.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 July 2014I didn't think much of this. It caused condensation which in turn made me cold. Not impressed.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 May 2010I'm doing the Welsh 3000s in a few weeks so I'm trying to get my kit down to be as small and light as I can without sacrificing safety. Currently I carry a traditional large, orange, polythene Bivvy bag and a paper-lined foil blanket. Together they weigh about 1.3kg and are VERY large. They are each slightly larger than A4 and, together, about 35mm thick.
This thermal survival bag should be able to replace them both. I ordered on a Friday and EVAQ8 had it here by Tuesday. It is about half a jotter pad in area (A7?), about 12mm thick and weighs 225g so I'm barely going to notice it in my Day sack. It says I should keep it in the vac-pac until required so I can't comment on the quality etc (Hopefully I will never find out) but I'm chuffed to have cut so much bulk and weight from my kit.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 January 2015Great survival bag, works in all weathers, length over 2 metres. I was expecting something very light but this is strong and easy to carry.
