The CD arrived exactly when promised, in its original case with cellophane wrapping intact. Excellent service, thank you.
This was a tremendous album when it was first released, and has well stood the test of time. Beginning with the innovative “Procession”, the evolution of music through the ages (in music), it does not disappoint. Justin Hayward’s “The Story In Your Eyes” is a great track with terrific rock guitar. “Emily’s Song” is a sweet song written by John Lodge for his baby daughter. John’s “One More Time To Love” begins as a gentle ballad, then gives us an unexpected, and timely, history lesson. “Nice To Be Here” is a lovely Ray Thomas track based on a Beatrix Potter story! Mike Pinder’s “My Song” is good, but I’m not still keen on his singing voice.
Stand-out tracks on the main album are Ray’s “Our Guessing Game” (a lovely, reflective song, with beautiful vocals), Graeme Edge’s “After You Came” (a great rock song) and Justin’s “You Can Never Go Home” (beautiful song).
As usual with these remastered versions, there are bonus tracks, two in this case, and both stand-outs. The first is the original “live recorded” version of Justin’s “The Story In Your Eyes”. This version was recorded with an extended guitar solo and has a vocal echo and, I think, is superior to the version that made it to the final cut. The other bonus is “Dreamer”, another of Ray’s lovely songs. Again, it was recorded “live” in the studio, but was not developed further. Such a shame.
All in all, another superb delve back into the time when music really was music.
