Product Description
A traffic jam proves to be the last straw for an unemployed defence industry worker (Michael Douglas), who goes on the rampage, dishing out revenge on all those he believes have conspired to make his life a misery. As the death toll mounts, easy-going cop Martin Prendergast (Robert Duvall) is assigned to track him down.
ÍøÆغÚÁÏ.co.uk Review
This film, about a downsized engineer (Michael Douglas) who goes ballistic, triggered a media avalanche of stories about middle-class white rage when it was released in 1993. In fact, it's nothing more than a manipulative, violent melodrama about one geek's meltdown. Douglas, complete with pocket protector, nerd glasses, crewcut and short-sleeved white shirt, gets stuck in traffic one day near downtown LA and proceeds to just walk away from his car--and then lose it emotionally. Everyone he encounters rubs him the wrong way--and a fine lot of stereotypes they are, from threatening ghetto punks to rude convenience store owners to a creepy white supremacist--and he reacts violently in every case. As he walks across LA (now there's a concept), cutting a bloody swath, he's being tracked by a cop on the verge of retirement (Robert Duvall). He also spends time on the phone with his frightened ex-wife (Barbara Hershey). Though Douglas and Duvall give stellar performances, they can't disguise the fact that, as usual, this is another film from director Joel Schumacher that is about surface and sensation, rather than actual substance. --Marshall Fine, ÍøÆغÚÁÏ.com --This text refers to the VHS edition of this video

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 November 2024This classic movie is as good now as it was when I first watched it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 October 2024Excellently acted by Michael Douglas, this is a man who descends into hell when he allows the world to get on top of him. You can foresee the end before it arrives, but sympathies are with him all the way
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 September 2024A great film, an iconic film. Micheal Douglas is superb in the role of frustrated middle age, over skilled, under qualified man...
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 August 2024This is the best Michael Douglas' movie where he is in the lead role. Its a very interesting story, which you can watch time and time again without getting bored.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 August 2024I enjoyed this film.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 March 2011This film is now almost twenty years old, and yet, it is now more relevant than ever. It is a brilliant film combining both an exciting thriller (with small amounts of action), blistering satire and social commentary, and laugh out loud funny moments. It is an intimate drama of one man's breakdown and the cop (on his last day before retirement) who has to find and deal with him, it is also epic with Los Angeles acting as the third major character. Perfect pacing and direction from Joel Schumacher, with special mention to James Newton Howard for a score which compliments the film wonderfully. Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall both brilliant actors, do this film justice, Michael Douglas is absolutely believable as the everyman worker, and Robert Duvall compliments Douglas' more showy performance with an understated one of the put-upon policeman.
This new blu-ray edition finally gives the film the best possible picture and sound (still only Dolby 2.0). The bright sunny shots of Los Angeles and the close-ups of the faces, all with far better detail than the original DVD as would be hoped. The sound is clear and precise (no real workout for the surround speakers), which for a film of this type is all that is necessary. Extras include a fantastic commentary from the director Joel Schumacher and the star Michael Douglas recorded separately, also included is an interview with Douglas which covers much the same ground as the commentary, and the trailer for the film which is nice for completists. Although not the most overwhelming of extras it is more than I could ever of hoped for on a film that tends to be overlooked, probably due to the subject matter.
Falling Down is one of my all-time favourite films. Great story, acting and dialogue. I think it can now be ranked as a classic, and definitely a must-see film.

5.0 out of 5 stars DVD UN GIORNO DI ORDINARIA FOLLIA-VERS.REGNO UNITO
Consiglio a tutti.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un thème digne de Louis-Ferdinand Céline, savamment développé et mis en scène. Top !
