Easy to light and great flames

If you have an open fireplace then these are great. They’re
1) easy to light
2) don’t spark or snap
3) leave very little ash
They do produce a little bit of smoke but it’s important to ensure the paper wrapper is burned away sufficiently. I normally light it at both ends then a couple of bits in the middle. The only time a log really produced a lot of smoke was when I added it to the fire without lighting it. I suspect it started burning within the wrapper but didn’t really produce any flame. Easy solution was to light the wrapper to burn a bit of that away. I suspect anyone saying they smoke a lot is having a similar problem.
The only negatives with these logs are the price but if you are only burning for aesthetics and not to heat a back boiler or room then it’s not too bad given the convenience factor.

The term ‘smokeless’ shouldn’t really be allowed to feature under the advertisement (misleading)
Smoke is present, however, lighter and less of an odour. The packet which wraps the log doesn’t feature any claim it’s smokeless, so again, think it’s misleading for the heading of the advert to say so.

I bought these for my fire pit/bowl garden heater (Not for barbecuing). and would recommend them. I lit one of these cakes at around 8:00 PM. At around 09:45 PM, two final minutes after the smoke started, the crumpet-toasting flaming inferno went straight out. After about two more minutes of smoke, a smouldering hot coal was left in it's wake for quite a while. It is now 11:00 PM, after-dark and it is still visible with the naked-eye and on Infra-Red CCTV. Only a bit of heat now,, certainly not sit-roundable anymore. Yes, it does burn for about two hours on average, but you only get flames for about 1 and three quarters of an hour.. Put it this way.... Unless I light another, there are no more crumpets tonight. Other than the final crumpetless put-down.... In my opinion, all-in-all, it is a really good product. I think I'll be stocking up on some more. In addition, these logs/cakes are a good timer for having visitors. Most arguments start after about one-to-two hours. Therefore, bugger them off at the smoke-signal as the flames go out. When they are all gone, light another and relax with BBC Radio 4's Shipping Forecast, a pint of Guinness and a Pipe of Black Cherry tobacco.
