I purchased two of these mats, for the purpose of going underneath a double inflatable camping mat, providing protection as well as improving the insulation from the ground.
When folded up fully, these pack to a very similar dimension as some previous, very old style roll up yellow foam mats I own, and have used in the past. The comparison in comfort however is that this product is extremely more comfortable due to the "egg box" style providing more cushioning than flat foam does, and creating slightly more distance between yourself and the ground.
For my existing use (under an air mat) the comfort side is wasted on me, however the insulation element is very useful, trapping pockets of air, and preventing the cold ground having any significant impact on temperature through the night while sleeping.
If I go on any wild camps in the future, I will definitely be using one of these mats over my old roll up foam mats, and for my recent "comfort" camps these are extremely beneficial.
