Great album to celebrate Georgia U.S.A voting Democrats in 2020 election

I'm a huge fan of Jason Isbell, and have always enjoyed his covers of other people's songs (such as Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Into The Mystic, Hello in There, Pancho and Lefty, Whipping Post, Heart On a String, American Girl, New York Morning). There are some very good covers on this CD, too, although he doesn't sing on all of them. I was unfamiliar with a number of them, so this was an interesting selection.

I pretty much like every track on this album. If you are buying this expecting a "Jason Isbell" album you might be disappointed, as another reviewer has pointed out it has different singers on most tracks. Is that important? Well not to me. I do like to hear familiar songs given a new outing and a fresh reading I think a song that can be reinterpreted successfully is by definition a VERY good song. How many covers of "Yesterday" have you heard? I doubt that you've heard them all!

There are some great songs on here some of which I am new to, for example Cat Power's "Cross Bones Style" and I will be checking out the original at some point. Clearly this has been a labour of love for Mr. Isbell. It should also be noted that proceeds from this album go to local Georgian charities.

Fabulous covers album of all of Georgias finest artists. Isbell is on fire here. All proceeds to charity too!

I admittedly hesitated to buy this album but am glad I did, I feel its almost a misnomer to call it a 400 Unit album but it's a very strong collection if you abandon preconceptions.

I am not the biggest fan of Jason Isbell but he has released some pretty good albums and is a talented singer songwriter. This is a covers album and the covers are fairly well chosen. Not sure it should be called a Jason Isbell album as he is not the main singer on a good few tracks. Maybe in some ways more of a compilation album of various singers? Not sure In Memory of Elizabeth Reed really works. It goes onto long and fact is thee is no chance of bettering the original. It is not a great album. It is listenable maybe skipping a couple of tracks. Not really a Jason Isbell album in more than one way and I can see Jason Isbell fans being a little disappointed. However, its not bad.

Bought cos it was well priced by غ ( less than ?5) knowing whats in store content wise . Im sure I wont be the only one that is disappointed with this album ( seen quite few reviews of the same sentiment). Maybe one has high expectations of someone like J. Isbell but lets be honest ; usually when artists start doin covers albums , themed ones and to top it all up have X amount of guests ( singers) that could be major sign of them losing creativity and downturn in their careers . I sincerely hope this wont happen with J.I. and his career. After all he and so many others during this past 2 years of COVID lockdowns and such had had ample of time to come up with something better than this below par effort that lucked passion and rendered itself pointless. Some of the tunes are simply in vain of power ballads of 80s and to include completely unnecessary rendition of In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed tops it all up ! Never mind musicianship, after all its expected of JI and his crew ( one may hear awesome musicianship from any busker in any downtown, anywhere) but whats expected is creativity , song craftsmanship and poise, of which none was applied to this outing. Sorry to say but this will be soon bin end item .

I've heard a lot of good things about Jason Isbell (and band) but got no previous work by him, decided to try this album.
This is a themed album (originals by Georgian connected artists) and uses various guests so I guess not typical of his work. The playing by the band is excellent and there are some good songs and covers (and a few worth skipping).
Overall, I found it a worthwhile listen, a decent but not top drawer covers album. I'm impressed by the band though and tempted to get hold of a more typical JI album.
