Product description
Celebrating 40 years since its original broadcast and in series order, this is the comedy series that put organic foods, self-sufficiency and green thinking on the map. On his 40th birthday, Tom Good (Richard Briers) decides that he s had enough of the rat race, and that he and his wife Barbara (Felicity Kendal) should become self-sufficient. Overnight they begin to convert their suburban garden into a farm, complete with crops, pigs and chickens, homemade beer and more. But their choice of lifestyle doesn t exactly fit in with the neighbours, in particular Margo Leadbetter (Penelope Keith) and her henpecked husband Jerry (Paul Eddington) who find themselves hindering, but even sometimes helping against their better judgement. Unique in its vision, consistent in its comedy, this is entertainment at its finest, the kind that only comes with THE GOOD LIFE. The fourth and final series release included here also contains the 1977 Christmas Special, and the 1978 Royal Command Performance which was filmed before The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 December 2024Bought as a Christmas gift so untested. Reasonably priced.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 October 2024Just good fun. Harmless and relaxing. Beats many of the more modern comedies in many ways. Subtle in places and a good study in behaviours.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 July 2024One of the all time greats in British comedy in my opinion , saw it when it originally aired and even today it still holds its appeal and magic as a comic classic
The characters personalities developed as the series moved on and they played their roles perfectly with great ability and timing
Set in suburbian London we see Tom and Barbra endeavour on their life of self sufficiency and trie to stay off the grid alongside them is Gerry and Margo with their middle class lifestyle as they are wed into the system , two opposites living together what could go wrong 😀???
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 August 2024This is a solid British Classic Comedy with great actors such as Felicity Kendal, Richard Briers, Penelope Keith and Paul Eddington. It is a great shame that comedy like this appears not to exist on British Television any more. SO this is a real classic alongside Morecombe and Wise and Ken Dodd!
