Product description
John Thaw stars as Tom Oakley in the award-winning family drama Goodnight Mister Tom. The DVD is based on the novel by Michelle Magorian and explores the life-long bond which develops between its two lead characters--an illiterate 10 year-old orphan from London (Willie), and a grumpy, cynical old widow who lives alone in the English countryside (Tom). After Willie is forced to seek refuge at TomÂ’s house in anticipation of the WWII German bombings of London, the story follows the trials and tribulations of the enduring relationship which eventually forms between them. The 101-minute DVD is in DVD 5 format and also features biographies.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 May 2024About a boy who, in world war 2, was evacuated from London to a country village. The man who looked after him , played by John Thaw, was initially rather gruff. The mother in London was mentally unbalanced and beat the boy who had scars on his back, During the film the boy and man grew closer together.
The boy was called back to London and there were some horiffiic scenes but the man also went to London and everything was sorted and of course there was happy ending.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 September 2024Enjoyable family film suitable for all ages.
While featuring many political, social, family and personal conflicts and trauma, it offers a calm and gentle philosophy that enables one to live trough the horrors of war and tragedy and still find beauty and comfort in simple human kindness and love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Drama, Good Story
It has a good story line. This was not a high budget production but it was well done, very enjoyable and somewhat sad.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heartwarming story
This is an old BBC non theatre movie believe. I remembered from when I was young. Although the format and picture is dated. Such a nice story. A message of kindness and stoicism that is never shown in modern movies. John Thaw gives good performance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recension av filmen "Godnatt Mr Tom"
Filmen är en förenklad variant av Michelle Magorians bok, men de viktigaste delarna är med. John Thaw är perfekt som mr Tom!
