This product does a reasonable job, but it's not quite strong enough to close a heavy gate. I added it as a second spring to an identical one from a different supplier, although a very similar product is available with a larger and stronger spring which might have been better.

It was easy enough to fit. The screws on the other spring started to rust quite quickly so I used galvanised screws for this one.

The inserts have a tendency to pop out when the spring is tensioned, but a tap with a hammer seated them securely enough to stay in place.

There is nothing wrong with this gate closer, apart from the pins but this can be fixed.
the pins go into both top and bottom of the spring retainer but the part that goes in is not long enough and they can come out. I found a quick and pernemant soloution is to find 2 screws that you can screw in to the holes where needed after tensioning. you could get a higher priced one but for the money and quick fix it still very cheap. the other soulution is to bond the pins in and leave untill bonded not useing gate untill.
both work. hope this helps

Useless, tensions 'twangs' off the product should have 2 pins there were one and only half screws supplied. An elastic band would be more efficient. Certainly wouldnt clise a meter high light wood gate. My husband is a joiner carpenter and certainly knows how to fit a gate spring if it was an efficient one. Buy cheap buy rubbish. Should have known better!
