The Neil Young Harvest boxset arrived in good time and everything in mint condition. Excellent and a fine example of quality. The studio album CD, live CDs, DVDs and hardback book are superb.

Reaping the harvest..
Harvest 50th anniversary edition.OK first things first - I am a huge fan of Neil Young and buy everything he puts out. Harvest I first heard in my early 20s, its an album so deep and perfect I have lived inside it for many years and has been part of the soundtrack to my adult life.I had this delivered the day it came out and last night sat down to listen and watch. The 50th anniversary of the album is superb, I have in the last few months upgraded my stereo and have noticed how warm and rich it sounds. It's one of the best albums ever made. Writing this part is easy.Outtakes - well we only get 3, all of which are previously unreleased versions of songs any serious fan will own. This disc is very sparse and I know his vaults have other tracks that could have been included.BBC - album and dvd. Any fan who has ventured into the grey market (bootlegs) will potentially have this set, I mean its excellent and lovely to have an official release, but as fans we are really spoilt for choice with live stuff from this period. I can't even count how many archive/performances series releases there are.The hardback book is wonderful, essays and photos from this period, beautifully bound and presented. The box everything is housed in is sturdy and looks great next to Archives 1 and 2. We also get a poster of Neil and the Stray Gators playing in the barn.. Which leads me to the big one.Harvest time dvd. I used to dream of seeing footage of this, knowing he recorded tracks in the barn was part of the mythology surrounding this album. Now 30 plus years after reading about it my dream has come true and.... Its boring and overlong. 2 hours this film could do with trimming, some of the performances have guitars woefully out of tune, watching any band rehearsals is an acquired taste and the film drags. 24 minutes in Crosby and Stills appear, everything comes alive as they work out harmony parts to Words. But as a film, I am glad I didn't go to watch it at the cinema.In short this should 3 and a half stars, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but 50 quid is a lot of cash to get scythed.
