Most reviews are of Valerian as opposed to the product, which I get. However this product has the THR (Traditional Herbal Registration) mark which is an absolute MUST if buying any herbal product. It is the ONLY way of knowing what you're buying is quality and it is what it says it is. Even from reputable high street retailers, many products sold are not what they claim to be, herbal meds lack regulation badly, the THR mark gives confidence. Do some googling on the matter and you will find out how alarming the issue is.
So, knowing that this is a quality product the review from here out is for the herb Valerian. I don't find this makes me sleepy or has an immediate sedative effects. I took the product regularly over several weeks and the difference was noticed, not by me at first, but by my girlfriend who, on a holiday to New York, pointed out how chilled out as was in situation that normally cause me anxiety. The difference was tangible, but subtle. I'm a fairly anxious worrying individual, however I found myself much more 'chilled', and I'm convinced I enjoyed the New York holiday much more as a result.
The effects of valerian isn't conclusive, I am just one case which isn't enough to say if these really works or not. However, for me, it did work but I don't take it everyday. There is not enough information on the longterms effects of taking this, while many see herbal as safer than prescribed medication I don't, because it's not. I'm getting married in just under two months, and I will start taking valerian in a few weeks to help me relax during the run up, wedding and honeymoon. I am tempted to take it everyday, but as things stand the risks outweigh the benefits and using it for occasions where it is needed works well for me.
In conclusion, don't see this as a sleep aid but an anti-anxiety drug. Taking it over a period of weeks will hopefully see the edge taken off any anxiety being experienced which may have the added benefit of helping you sleep. If you feel you need to take it long term then just consider the benefits against risks. It's not wrong to take long term but the improvement to your life from taking it, needs to be worth taking the risk that damage 'may' be done to your body by taking it everyday.
