I’m fairly satisfied with this external Blu-ray/DVD player. It arrived well-packaged, but the instructions could definitely be clearer. I primarily use it with my laptop, which lacks an internal player, and it performs adequately for that purpose. It’s not the most high-end option available, but for the price, it gets the job done.

However, the build quality feels a bit basic, and the output cable is too short for convenient use with a desktop PC. Despite its compact design and quiet operation, the cable length limits placement flexibility, making it better suited for laptops. While the device works well for reading Blu-ray and DVD discs, writing speeds are average, and the process can be a bit slow at times. Overall, it’s a decent choice if you’re after a budget-friendly solution, but there are some compromises in terms of functionality and ease of use.

Setup was automatic as Windows 11 didn’t ask for any driver installation; it was automatically recognized as a DVD drive after a few minutes. I assume the drivers were installed in the background,.

The additional features are what really stand out. It has three USB ports at the back, which is super convenient for connecting other devices. The SD and microSD card readers are another great touch. I transferred files from a GoPro memory card without any issues, just plug and play.

As for functionality, it reads CDs, DVDs, and even flash drives. It’s compact and doesn’t take up much desk space.

I like the compact design and build quality of this drive. The output cable is fixed and tidily stored in a recess on the underside of the body. This cable provides power to the drive as well as communication. A separate USB C cable is supplied in case the drive requires additional power. I found the drive works OK without using this cable.

The tray opens smoothly and the drive operates quietly. The drive is quickly recognised by my Windows 10 PC. The drive works OK using a USB port at the front of my PC (as well as one at the back). Bluray and DVD discs were read and files written to a DVD-R disc, albeit at a medium 8X speed. The software struggled to close the disc at the end of the writing session, but did eventually.

The very short output cable means I cannot locate the drive in a convenient and easily accessible location when connected to my PC, which stands on the floor. So more suited to use on a desk with a laptop. The star rating reflects this impracticality, the slow disc writing and the high price.

I am pretty pleased with this external Blu-ray / dvd player. It comes boxed and the instructions are poor but for what I need it for it is fine.

I attached it to my laptop to watch Blu-ray and dvd discs as it does not have a built in player.

Not top of the range but good for the price.
