From the manufacturer
Product description
Sci-fi feature written and directed by Christopher Nolan, director of 'The Dark Knight' trilogy. On a resource-depleted Earth in the near future, the discovery of a wormhole which can transport users through time and space unites scientists and explorers in the most important mission in human history. Among the potential travellers is a widowed engineer (Matthew McConaughey) who must decide whether to remain with his two children or to test the limits of human space travel, to see if there is a future for humanity out among the stars or whether the end of the Earth spells the end for humanity. Academy Award-winner Hans Zimmer returns to partner Nolan and score the film. The cast members include Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards and won for Best Visual Effects.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 January 2025Excellent transcription for an awesome movie. A very good batch of extra content on Disc 2 make it for a very good buy, especially for less than 10 quid.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 April 2015A near future science fiction epic movie from director Christopher Nolan. Which tries to consider some of the big questions about human existence.
Life on Earth is getting pretty grim. As humanity has turned it's back on exploring beyond it's homeworld. And the human race is struggling to survive as crops fail and dust clouds get ever larger.
Former Nasa pilot Cooper [Matthew McConaughey], his two children plus his father try to get by living on a farm. Cooper's daughter is a very smart girl. But this dying world doesn't offer her much opportunity.
But when Cooper and his family find that some haven't given up on the dream of space, he becomes involved in an expedition that is the last chance for the human race. The laws of physics mean that he might never see his children again. What he does end up seeing is more than he could have ever expected...
Interstellar takes itself seriously. It's not an action movie or a space adventure. It tries hard to do real science. Which those who like to nit pick might just manage to get their teeth into. It looks at the human reach to explore and see what's out there, and how some have that desire and others don't. It tries to show us fantastical interstellar sights, whilst at the same time being a solid family drama about the relationship between fathers and children.
It should be an amazing and unforgettable odyssey. But it doesn't quite manage that, being a four rather than a five star film instead. Because it's one of those movies that could perhaps have done with one more draft of the script first. This is because it's blatantly obvious after not too much of it's running time how the film is going to end. Which does rob it of a certain amount of narrative drive. And leave the characters not driving the action quite as much as they perhaps should.
Whilst the first half is quite involving nonetheless, it does slightly lose it's way in the second. With a slightly overlong sequence on another world. And then it goes into rather different realms, with a sequence that requires a great suspension of disbelief. And one key visual in this sequence really doesn't come off.
The other problem is the score. Which is very good. With some strong music that's a little different to the usual. But it's so loud at some points, and as a result it drowns out the dialogue.
The cast are all pretty good. Matthew McConaughey in particular. He has a very good chemistry with Anne Hathaway, who plays another expedition member. And some of the visuals really are quite stunning. Although the impact will of course be a little less on the small screen. It's a film that should soar. But it only really takes flight occasionally.
Even so, it's one that is really worth judging for yourself.
The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:
Languages: English.
Subtitles: English. Danish. Finnish. Icelandic. Norwegian. Swedish.
The disc goes straight into the main menu once loaded up, without any trailers to get through first.
Alas, it has no extras whatsoever.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 April 2021If u r a SIFI buff like me u will love this its a bit long but Anne Hathaway and Mathew McConaughey,Jessica Chasing, and u can't leave out Michael Caine u have a winner.Basicly the earth is dying ,to much carbon !!Sounds familiar. Anne Hathaway n Mathew McConaughey set off into space to seek out a habital world in another galaxy using a black hole as jump point.Mathew leaves behind a 10 Yr old daughter and a son on his crop farm .He gives his daughter a watch identical to his and he says maybe when I get back, u,meaning his daughter will b the same age as him.Little did he know??? Some 1 or something is looking after them and in a strange way the earth . Well they go through the black hole but they are only gon 4 a few yrs out in space but his daughter has grown up on earth and works with scientist Michael Caine, Michael Caine told the space crew that by the time they find a suitable planet he would of solved the equation of gravity its 2 do with the space and time But he lied !!!! He could never solve it.U have to watch it n u will understand. Anyway they find some astronauts that went 10 years earlier ie Matt Damen who goes off his head n trying to kill them all while he's trying to board the mother ship he damages it and kills himself but makes it near impossible for the remaining pilots to finish the mission.Mathew McConaughey saves Anne Hathaway by ejecting her with the mother ship on to an earth like planet with the means to begin again. MATHEW trys to go back through the black hole to fulfill his promise to his daughter to come home.Between him leaving Anne and going back through the hole a lot happens he's able to tell his daughter how to save the people on earth .He then finds himself waking up in hospital n get this he's a 124 yrs old!! He was 33 yrs old when he left he's about 35 yrs in himself but he's been gone 91 yrs his daughter comes to see him on the space station she's been kept alive in cryostasis waiting 4 him to come back. Its a tearfull reunion the film has agood story and some intrigue in it there r some twists n turns but well worth watching I've left the ending off u will have to watch it to find out 😄 👍
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 October 2024Getting a bit dated, but the skill of the actors really makes this a timeless film.

5.0 out of 5 stars I received it, but غ says still being shipped.
The music is so fantastic, also the plot reminds me of the time margins that Charlton Heston's character found in Planet Of The Apes where earth time went faster than he did out on his space trip. Matthew McConaughey also returned back to his daughter where she was elderly & much older than him, a bit like time distortion for Mr. Heston.
