Synopsis
Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is directed by Wes Ball (the “Maze Runner” trilogy) and stars Owen Teague (“IT”), Freya Allan (“The Witcher”), Kevin Durand (“Locke & Key”), Peter Macon (“Shameless”), and William H. Macy (“Fargo”). The screenplay is by Josh Friedman (“War of the Worlds”) and Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (“Avatar: The Way of Water”) and Patrick Aison (“Prey”), based on characters created by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, and the producers are Wes Ball, Joe Hartwick, Jr. (“The Maze Runner”), Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Jason Reed (“Mulan”), with Peter Chernin (the “Planet of the Apes” trilogy) and Jenno Topping (“Ford v. Ferrari”) serving as executive producers.
Special Features
Forbidden Zone
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes features the "Forbidden Zone," an area that's strictly off-limits to the apes. In Planet of the Apes, it's revealed at the end of the film that this forbidden area is what's left of Manhattan, leading to the famous twist ending featuring the Statue of Liberty. In the original film, the area is kept from the apes in order to hide the fact that humans once controlled the planet. Owen Teague, explains why the Forbidden Zone returns in the upcoming movie.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 October 2024You might have thought it was done with War. But the franchise is back. With a new story taking place three hundred years later.
This would actually work as a jumping on point though because it does get some exposition in during the opening credits. Which should be more than enough to bring anyone up to speed.
I have never been that into the original versions. I saw the Tim Burton one because I like his movies. But I don't have a copy of it in my collection. And it takes a lot to make that happen. I didn't get round to watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes till three years after it came out. But I liked that and Dawn. Although I thought War underwhelmed. As it didn't have enough War in it.
Even so, right from the off this had me. We meet Ape Noa, who is trying to live up to his father's expectations and takes risks as a result. The cgi and the movement in these scenes really grabbed me from the off. It's also good how the ape language is done. Speaking not quite like humans would.
Things happen and he is soon on a quest where he meets another Ape and human Nova [Freya Allan. Ciri from the Witcher. Whom I didn't recognise till looking at imdb later]. And this takes them into the territory of Proximus Caesar. An Ape who wants something.....
This does keep it's focus on a select number of characters, which does allow for them all to develop nicely and get some great character arcs. It's also got a very decent plot which does keep you interested to see how things will turn out.
There are some good twists and turns along the way, none of which I saw coming. The visuals do remain great throughout. As does the realisation of the Apes. Some scenes do give a real sense of wonder to the viewer. It does some great world building also. Caesar is now something of a mythical figure, and how he is remembered has an interesting effect.
The ending worked for me. Let's just say it would allow for more in this world. And I hope it happens.
Really liked this. I hope more follows.
There's nothing during or after the end credits that is essential.
The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:
Languages: English. Castilian Spanish. Catalan Spanish.
Subtitles: English. Danish. Finnish. Norwegian. Swedish. Castilian Spanish.
The dvd goes straight into the main menu when loaded. It has no extras at all.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 December 2024This is a great film if you like planet of the apes, much better than some of the previous films !
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 December 2024Great delivery. Precisely what I ordered.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 December 2024Planet Of The Apes has always had it's ups and downs as a film series. This new film, Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes is one of the best in the series, and definitely one worth watching.
I bought the 4k Blu-ray, and it looks and sounds absolutely amazing.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 December 2024Great film action packed & effects are fantastic
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 November 2024A fun film that continues the story of the apes.
Takes place "many generations later" as we are told at the start of the film.
Whilst most of the film is ok and there are some great set pieces, it fails to address how a whole group of "still speaking" people have managed to survive in a bunker for many generations, which makes the ending a bit crappy. Other than that, a good, if convoluted, watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best looking steelbook of the year.
The 4k presentation of the movie is wonderfully vibrant and the sound is perfect even in quieter scenes where on DVD presentations is struggle to hear them without subtitles.
It was delivered reliably and on time thanks to the seller using auspost a reliable courier service.
The steelbook it's self is absolutely beautiful the pictures don't do it justice I knew it would look nice but once I opened the package I was blown away.
With this being another thought provoking instalment to such a heart felt franchise it's definitely worth paying that bit extra for the 4k steelbook.
