- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 July 2018I first saw the Darkness when they supported Whitesnake at the Ipswich Odeon when they first started out. I took my son and by a considerable margin he preferred them over Whitesnake - probably because they were so much fun.
Since then they have of course very publically rose to the top and then spectacularly crashed. And now are probably at the level that reflects reality. A well supported mid range touring band.
And that's fine because they play venues that are big enough to allow a bit of a crowd and noise whilst not becoming some distant spec on the horizon. And this is why I still love to see the Darkness. They play to the audience and still have that huge sense of the ridiculous that turns a concert into a party.
And here we are an album that perfectly captures the essence of it all. They sound live - which may be a bit obvious but of course most 'live' albums are anything but. I suspect this is because they were on a budget and what was recorded was used - and its all the better for it. They really do sound pretty much as you hear them when you go to a concert.
Great range of songs from across their back catalogue with not a duffer on there. I'm not a huge fan of the Darkness but I appreciate the honesty of their music and the effort they put in. Most of all though, I've always enjoyed them live which is what its all about. Chances are if you like their music even in passing, you'll really love this album.
Overall I'd have to say this is a winner. Great music and a great live party.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 July 2022This is a joyous romp of a live album. The Darkness have proven that they are no 'joke' band - they never were, but still manage to have a lighthearted aproach to life and to performing. The production is brilliant, giving a proper live feel and transmitting the energy of the performance to the recording (think Live & Dangourous - Thin Lizzy) Justin Hawkins engages with the audience brilliantly. Absolutley love it, I am sure you will too
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 February 2021I was worried at first as the opening riff of "Open fire" is drowned out by the crowd for some reason who ever mixed it got the balence wrong, I know it's a live album and a bit of cheering and noise adds to the whole vibe but you could barely hear the guitar at all. But as soon as the rest of the band kick in the sound is spot on. The set they play is great and the whole band perform fantastic a really great live album.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 July 2018Saw them at the their first Sydney shows way back when.... this is (to me) an example of the modern day of live recording performance. Or maybe they just ain't so hungry any more?
It's musically good, old fashioned rock n roll - power rhythmn section, screaming guitars, smart solos and a charismatic front man.
But that, in itself, doesn't necessarily make for a "great" performance. Not as good as the Sydney gig at the old Gaelic Club
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2018This band never disappoint, absolutely brilliant live if not the best on the circuit, saw them on tour just before this was recorded and there are a few tracks they didn't play that are on this album so i am very pleased about that! Can't recommend this enough and if you get the chance, go see them for yourself, no recording does these guys justice as good as this is!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 June 2018The Darkness are sometimes seen by some as a bit of a joke band. However this live album shows just how good they really are. The musicianship is top notch throughout. The band can really play. Yes sometimes the lyrics are a bit silly (Southern Trains !) but If you like classic guitar driven rock with blazing riffs and solos played extremely well then pick this up.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 June 2022Great live album of the band
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 September 2018A great gift for any fan of The Darkness. If you can't make a live event, buy this CD, turn the volume up loud to experience it like you're in the room. I went to a couple of their gigs and this CD is basically what I experienced. It brings me back to the nights I saw them live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly the Last of their Kind!!
In a perfect world The Darkness would be as big in the States as say, Aerosmith in the 80's and 90's. But the music industry being in the state it is today nobody really gets that kind of traction anymore. In spite of that...Thank God for The Darkness!! These guys have pumped out album after album of "Solid Gold" in since reuniting back in 2011/2012. This record kills. Dan did a killer job putting this together, the band is tight and Justin's voice is freaking bulletproof! Really enjoyed hearing him singing the tunes from Permission. Hard to explain but there's a slightly more mature tone to his voice that to me is actually preferable to some original recordings. Best example I can provide is on Stuck in a Rut, always kind of passed over the studio version but live it just slays!!
Anyway, this is a great live record from one of last great Rock and Roll bands. Buy this record, and everything else these guys put out, you will NOT be disappointed!!
