I am a huge Beatles fan, so I have given this album five stars—what else? However, it could be described as not a popular album as it contains some "Beatles fans only" tracks, e.g., "I am the Walrus.".
The album contains songs from the film, which bombed when it was first shown on British TV but has now gathered a cult following.
There are some bonus tracks - 3 brilliant classic tracks Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields Forever & All You Need is Love- who doesn't remember these?
There is also a mini-documentary on the Magical Mystery Tour film.
You can't go wrong!

This review is for the 2009 remastered reissue from 2012.

Let's begin with the album - an absolute treasure. The history of this album is quite an interesting one. Originally a 6 track double EP in the UK (side A) released in conjunction with the bands 1967 film, the song listing was then extended to warrant a full LP release in the US with the addition of 5 1967 singles (side B). I really enjoy Side A and there are some great songs included such as 'The Fool on the Hill' and 'I am the Walrus'; however, in my opinion, side B is just a revelation of timeless tracks and quite possible one of the strongest B sides of a Beatles album ever released.

Concerning my order, I received the 2012 reissue with 2009 remastering. There are a couple of more recent UK pressings that have subsequently been released (a 2014 mono reissue and a 2017 DeAgostini reissue) so it's worth checking which issue you receive in the post as the 2014 mono is a little 'rarer'. The album packaging is superb - gatefold sleeve, glossy cover, 24 page booklet, and a beautiful thick spine. The vinyl is also fantastic - 180g heavyweight vinyl without a mark or hair on.

Now we come to the sticking point. So, I've read several reviews on amazon regarding the sound and production issues. On the one hand I can completely empathize with those who have the original albums or singles and the stereo mixes may sound a little 'off' - especially when there is a £30 price tag attached. Growing up on a 1990s CD reissue, I can not say that I noticed the sound issue as prominently as others. I loved my music and the album will most certainly be on rotation in my house.

The final point, and one that has become more prominent over the last 12 months, is the price. As I stated already, the price tag is around £30 at the moment, which is fairly high compared to the end of August last year when it was under £20. I've noticed vinyl prices in general increase significantly over the last 12 months. Whether this trend changes or not, only time can tell. Personally I would wait, with the hope that prices fall once again, however there is always the risk that prices continue to rise.

In conclusion, I love the album, the packaging is superb, but the sound issues and price could be a deciding factor as to whether you buy this or not.

Roll up, roll up for the Mystery Tour! Great album for any Beatles fan. I find the pressing to be okay....nice and weighty too. I watched the original Mystery Tour film when it came out when I was very young and it didn't go down too well with my dad who said it was rubbish ( he said it wasn't suitble for Christmas at all and where was Morcambe and Wise) but you can't fault the music if you're a Beatles fan. There are a couple of lesser known songs here but bear with them and repeat a few times to get the Beatles vibe. The booklet is in there too and I'm happy I bought it as my original copy went missing in a move many years ago so it was some lovely nostalgia for me! Well packaged, fast delivery.

What I am reviewing here is the vinyl version of the Magical Mystery tour.
I had been thinking of buying this album for a few weeks. And after flicking through endless reviews, I realised that they were all reviews of the actual album itself. Which was not what I was looking for. I mean, everyone knows that the album itself is outstanding. You can argue about coherence and psychedelics until the cows come home, but at the end of the day everyone knows the album, and no-ones opinions on the reviews is going to change how anyone feels about it.
But what no-one was reviewing was the physical vinyl album itself. Which was what I wanted. So, here is my little review for anyone in the same position as myself.
From the start I have to say that this edition has been done really well. The album comes in a gate-fold sleeve with a thick spine. It has a really high gloss finish and is made of nice and thick card. It is a really nice thing to hold in your hand. It is weighty too, because it is pressed in 180gm vinyl. Also, the album comes with a 24 page booklet with photos and a comic book accompaniment to the music. This is big too. It is 12" square and fits into one side of the gate-fold sleeve.
So, on the whole the physical vinyl album release has been really well done. It is really well made and is a joy to hold and flick through. I am super pleased with it, and would recommend it to anyone. It is a high quality reproduction of the original, and will look great in anyone's record collection. And because it is pressed on 180gm vinyl, it sounds fantastic too.

People put down the Magical Mystery Tour TV movie, though it has the excellent and equally psychedelic "I Am The Walrus" and "Blue Jay Way" video pieces. If you don't look at this as a concept album (which it isn't), it has marvelous Beatles songs in it. Isn't it interesting that his band is so talented, productive, influential, and important to history that Magic Mystery Tour is considered a lesser album in their discography?
