I look forward to hearing this and possibly purchasing one for myself. It was a very well received gift by someone who listens a lot.

How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on ÍøÆغÚÁÏ. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 October 2013This disc, well recorded in 1983, contains two fine performances given by a well balanced set of soloists in the Magnificat and some fabulous singing from Emma Kirkby in the cantata. The solo trumpet playing in the cantata deserves special mention and it is a grave error not to list such an important solo player who is treated on a par with the vocal soloist in the opening and closing sections.
The main attention will almost certainly focus on the Magnificat which receives a generally swift reading of the choruses but not to excess. This enables the choir to enunciate clearly and still achieve considerable verve in delivery. All the soloists perform well and this is an excellent performance of a work that should thrill. Bach clearly intended it to have considerable impact and scored it with that in mind. The English Baroque Soloists are a fine group of musicians who play accurately and with good tone. This applies to all the sections of the orchestra but in this case it needs to be added that the three trumpets play in such a way that they would surely have delighted Bach.
Apart from the obviously short playing time of just under 42 minutes, this disc offers splendid music making and is well recorded. I would therefore suggest that it is well worth considering as an attractive purchase even with the proviso about the playing time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cantata per soprano e Magnificat versione in re maggiore
Fantastica esecuzione della Cantata da parte della Kirkby e dell'orchestra, soprattutto da parte della tromba solista, oltre al Magnificat nella versione in Re Maggiore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificat de Bach avec Emma Kirkby
Je n'arrête pas d'écouter ce Magnificat avec la belle et chaude voix de Emma Kirkby. C'est une pure merveille. Orchestre bien dirigé, du rythme et mise en valeur d'une composition magistrale. A ne pas manquer!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Performance
This CD is a real tribute to the mastery of Johann Sebastian Bach. John Eliot Gardiner gives a crisp and brilliant interpretation, using period instruments, of the Magnificat in D major, BWV 243 and the virtuosistic cantata "Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen" BWV 51. The Monteverdi Choir is just superb, fresh voices with the proper amount of balance and complete technical assurance; their performance make this difficult peace sound very easy. The soloists on the Magnificat (Nancy Argenta, Patrizia Kwella, Charles Brett, Anthony Rolfe-Johnson and David Thomas)are just fine, with voices that match very well the quality of the chorus. Then we also have on this recording the magnificent Emma Kirkby, bringing her best qualities to "Jauchzet". The freshness of her voice, united with her virtousistic flexibility, give great pleasure. She is definitely the best of all the singers of Early Music. Her greatness is complemented by the superb trumpet playing of Crispian Steele and again the conducting of Gardiner and the magnificent ensemble of the English Baroque Soloists. The sound is excellent, the performance stellar. What more to ask? Just buy it!
