Product description
MJ Lenderman is a songwriter born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. The anatomy of an MJ record might go something like this: warped pedal steels and skuzzed out guitar; crackin' a cold one with some buds; a voice reminiscent of the high-lonesome warble of a choirboy. Songs snake their way from a lo-fi home recording to something glossier made with longtime friends at Asheville's Drop of Sun studios, but the recording setting doesn't seem to matter much - at its core, a Lenderman song rings true.
Manning Fireworks is a remarkable development in MJ Lenderman's story as an incredibly incisive singer-songwriter, whose propensity for humour always points to some uneasy, disorienting darkness. The punchlines are still here, as are the rusted-wire guitar solos that have made Lenderman a favourite for indie rock fans looking for an emerging guitar hero. There's a new sincerity, too, as Lenderman lets listeners clearly see the world through his warped lens.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 September 2024Hadn’t heard of this guy until a couple of weeks ago but have fallen in love with this album since then. Enjoyed it enough to get the vinyl - no regrets at all, cracking album.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 September 2024A modern classic of countrified, grungy American indie-rock. Stand out track is ‘On My Knees’ a loose, swaggering slice of Neil Young and Crazy Horse-style rock.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 September 2024Asheville singer-songwriter’s fourth album is witty and sincere, full of scathing caricatures and loneliness and ballooned by empathy, bruised egos and self-destruction. Warped pedal steels and rusted-wire guitar solos provide the backdrop to his high-lonesome warble and lo-fi home recording. A songwriter clearly finding his voice on this Sad-Guy Indie-Rock Country-Grunge gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Una delle rivelazione dell'anno
