tl;dr This has a permanent spot in my gaming room because the results are brilliant!

The OSSC came fully packed with a power supply and remote control. The power supply admittedly is a tad on the short side - it's only about a metre long - but luckily my set-up affords a spare plug socket nearby anyway. The remote looks like one of those cheap re-programmable ones but to be fair it's the exact one that comes with other OSSCs I've seen online. It's the "stock" one, and it's already programmed for the OSSC.

The OSSC arrived very quickly, was very well packaged, in perfect condition (case wasn't cracked/broken), and it was very easy to set up. I've tried it out with five different systems:

* Mega Drive
* SNES
* PlayStation 2
* XBox (original)
* Dreamcast

I would've tried with more consoles but all OSSCs only accept RGB and component signals, and I don't have RGB cables for my other consoles (yet!). If you only have composite red/white/yellow cables, it won't work. You'll need to get some better quality cables. A quick search online for RGB SCART will point you in the right direction.

Compared to the composite picture, games look so much better through this device. Across the board, the colours were much more faithful to the games and input lag was reduced. Many games looked sharper, but you'll have mixed results on most consoles from the PS2 onwards without doing some fine tuning.

Overall I'm very happy with this device. The OSSC has been recommended to me by a few fellow gamers, but I didn't have one until now and I wish I'd have gotten one sooner. It's currently set up in my gaming room and I'll be spending the next couple of evenings getting more familiar with all of the settings and fine tuning them for my specific consoles.

The headline sounds like a fanboy but having dug out an old Atari and not being able to get an image on my LG Oled with the scart lead I considered some of the cheaper scart options, actually tried a few I already had but to no avail as the Atari outputs at 15Khz which means most modern TV's cant 'see it' . Having had this for a few days I am now blown away with what you can fine tune - out of the box I had the dreaded 'jailbars' running down the screen but with a simple tweak (change the Pre ADC gain to 15) and the image is steady and perfect. I've updated the firmware to the latest .90a and it accepts the generic file with no issue unlike some other versions. These 1.6 variants are now being replaced by the 1.7 version but it doesn't change much - happy with this brand and considerably cheaper than the others. As a concept the OSSC isnt cheap but use one and you won't go back for when you want a retro RGB video connection. Just need the scart lead for my Amiga now...

I achieved 100% compatibility using Dell U3011 monitor which I bought for £40.

At first, I was impressed with the video quality on everything up to the 5th gen (ps1, Saturn and backwards).

I liked how the ridge racer and Gran Turismo look.

The image was sharp and the colours were not oversaturated. I didn't experience any input lag whatsoever. Snes, Mega drive and the master system worked fine.

I gave up on this device after connecting my sega dreamcast, Gamecube, PlayStation 2 and original Xbox. The bob deinterlacing - mode used to change the image from interlaced (480i) to progressive (480p 960p), work bad causing the screen to flicker.

This is normal for this process. It is just bad.

Also, this device doesn't support composite cable (3 plugs red yellow white) out of the box. You need to buy a separate device that you connect to the component slot (another £75).

Because you already used the port for composite input, you probably want to invest in an analogue switcher (an extra 15 to 25 for cheap).

In total, you end up with the device for about 200 with a bunch of cables and power supplies.

The worst thing is it won't work at its best straight out of the box. You will need to spend hours changing the phase shifts and batch of other stuff to rt a good image.

So, to summarize (this is relevant to all OSSC devices!):

1. Initial cost 110 but no composite support
2. Another 75 for the addon to use with composite.
3. Addon is attached to the component input so you must trade one for another (or buy another device - switcher).
4. Bob deinterlacing is bad - even if you mask it with nice scan lines.
5. Badly located ports on the board making cable organisation really difficult.
6. You must go through the painful process of setting this device up to achieve the best image quality (using external websites and uploading configs to ossc through a micro sd card).
7. The cable management on this thing is impossible if you want to connect more than 2 consoles.
8. This device looks like it was designed on the toilet.

Because of multiple issues with this thing I had to return it.

I got RetroTink 5X pro which works much better straight out of the box.

Supports all possible signals (apart from antenna RF), can upscale 720p to 1440p, comes with a great deinterlacing mode, have a better design (but scart is still upside down), and you don't have to absolutely nothing to get the best picture quality. Cost me 270. Added all stuff I had to buy to get ossc to work with my setup the difference is maybe £30 for hassle free solution.
