The item is made out of metal. There is a single wire running across the top of the item, which you can increase the tension by two traditional bolts at either side.
There is a retractable rolling barrel that slides long the cheese. This dictates the thickness of the slice of cheese. The barrel is moved up and down as desired by the owner. There is a small catch which locks by screwing it into place when you have the right dimensions. Unfortunately, the poor design means that no matter which position you choose, or how tighly you turn the bolt, the lock falls out of position and the slicer is rendered unfit for purpose.
The wire is held on by two bolts at the top, which, when turned causes the wire to slip out of position. There is a small groove for the wire to sit in but the bolt has to be turned 360�� before this notch is available and the wire can be secured.
Originally chosen as it looked sturdy with a simple design/less to go wrong. However, it was a very poor investment as the design is not functional.
