I ordered this 10-piece set of PTFE magnetic stir bars, and let me tell you, I give it four out of five stars. Why? Because some of these stir bars are so small, they make me wonder what kind of science experiment involves mixing atoms!

I admit, I didn’t really know what size I needed for my setup, so I went with the multi-pack. It’s like ordering the sampler platter at a restaurant—you’re bound to get something you didn’t know you didn’t want. The stir bars work fine, but the ones below 12mm? I don’t know what they’re for, unless you’re trying to stir a droplet of water.

These tiny guys are so small, they just stick to the bottom of the vial like they’re on vacation, sunbathing instead of doing their job. They connect polarly and just spin around the bottom like a lazy Susan. I’m taking off one star because, really, what’s the point?

So, if you need a reliable stir bar, these are solid. But unless you’re doing some micro-mixing, you might end up with a few that just sit there, taking up space. It’s not the bars’ fault; it’s mine for thinking I needed the whole variety pack. But hey, now I’ve got a set of science accessories for ants!
