I initially didn’t think this would work, it did take three days for the bacteria to grow. After two weeks the grains have now doubled in size and I have a glass of kefir each day. Feel it is beneficial to my digestion system, I mix with berries for a lovely smoothie, I’m loving the tangy taste.
Definitely worth the initial outlay and will last for ever. Delivery was on time and came with full instructions.

Excellent! I found that kefir helps me massively with chemotherapy induced GERD/indigestion but it's £1.50 a bottle! That's expensive when you want it 2x daily. So I did a little research and ended up here - so glad I did.

I followed the instructions - I was a little unsure of what I was doing but found additional help on the internet. I duly put my grains in my clean glass jar, tipped in 300 ml of milk and waited 24 hours. The instructions suggest throwing away the first batch, so I drained it and tossed it - smelling it, there would have been no need. it smelled and looked just like kefir. I made my second batch, and, when it was ready, gave it a try. It was simply pure, smooth kefir.

That was weeks ago. I now have 10x the amount of grains and am struggling to drink all this kefir! (Tip - put it on muesli or use it in muffins if you have excess.) I'm now experimenting with flavouring it - working well so far. A little orange and lemon peel works great to give it a slight flavour. DON'T flavour it with the grains in - you will taint your grains. Drain it, THEN add the fruit peel/mixed spice/fruit/cocoa/whatever you choose and leave for a second ferment in the fridge whilst your next, milk-only batch is brewing.

If you're wondering if it's worth buying this - IT IS!

Please note that they only send you 5g of kefir grains and measly small underfermented ones at that, not the 15g stated on amazon product description ( packaging, 20g, item 15g, units 15g - that is a lie - the whole thing wighs less than 15 gramms and on the bag of grains itself it has tickboxes for 5 gramms , 10 gramms, and 15 gramms - and the 5gramms one is tiked so they purposefully send you 5 gramms when they advertise 15gramms - 5 gramms, and in grains nothing like the photos - no mature grains here, just tiny baby grains it will take moths and gallons of milk to get the tiny graind they sent anywhere near the size of the ones photographed, let alone the 15 gramms wight I was sold here, I bought these "organic cows milk grains" as they are for a present for my freind along with her won kefir kit, as I use goats milk , but it is a waste of time. I do NOT recommend these grains - go somehwere else and buy proper, functioning grains of a decent size and weight. - these grains are too young, not suitable for fermenting milk, they need another couple of months of activation before they can be used, which will not only cost you time but gallons of wasted milk. it is a disgrace that they use photos of funcitoning grains and send out non functioning grains, and there are also no instructions with them, but I knew as soon as I saw them there was something really wrong. I took them to goat farmer I get my goats milk from, who also does kefir workshops and cheese workshops etc, and they explained to me that yet - these grains are nowhere near ready for use to ferment kefir.
I went to the comany's website - as no instructions - just says " go to our website" on a piece of paper, and there bonthe website it tells you, after much waffle, that it could take months for your grains to work, and that you have to change out and throw away the milk every 12 to 48 hours for that month - so they even tell you , after much searching, on their own website, that thes grains are NOT SUITABLE for kefir fermentation , not as they sell them, you are expected to finish the growth of the grains yourself.
it syas no such thing here on amazon and I will be reporting this page as people new to kefir will not know, people experienced in kefir will not know, we can grow on our own grains at home, if we are buying a batch of different culture for a friend, like I was, do not buy it here.

I was a little dubious when the grains first arrived as they were in a small postage bad and had seemingly been squished in transport. But after following the instructions, and getting them set up in some fresh milk, they've continued to thrive. I now have six tablespoon sized colonies from just over a teaspoon of grains.

I'm still learning how best to treat them and get the best fermentation going. I find a couple of days (in current ambient temperature) in the cupboard is just fine, though if it is a little cooler I'll put the jar of milk in the same room as my boiler and that gets it going a lot faster though it can get a bit too warm so I continually keep and eye on it.

Supposedly, different colonies develop different flavours over time so there is no point in me commenting about how they taste, but they do have an expected sour taste and if left a little longer to ferment they produce a slightly effervescent fizz to the milk/yoghurt.

I've also experimented a little with mixing semi-skimmed milk with hemp milk which interestingly enough seemed to make the grains either increase in size or open up. I can't find any information of others having this same experience so I'm not entirely sure what's happening there. As long as you are giving them a good source of lactose they do just fine if you decide to add them to a milk alternative for a 'brew'. Just remember to return them back to milk to give them a good feeding.

I also found I had some stomach pains after the first couple of months of drinking it. From what I have gathered from some research, some people benefit from taking a break of ten days after twenty days of consuming it. Since doing this, I haven't had such pains return. Apart from that particular issue, I can safely say I have noticed a definite improvement in my gut health and overall wellbeing. I have issues with depression and anxiety, especially over the winter months, and I believe the kefir has had an impact and I have not resorted to pharmaceuticals this year.
