I purchased this to connect my older 32" LCD TV which only has a digital coax output to a Sony soundbar via its optical digital input. And it works pretty flawlessly.

I'm unable to determine if it allows full Dolby digital 5.1 or DTS etc as I'm not sure what signal is output by the TV. But both compressed and LPCM signals pass through from the TV to the soundbar.

The unit itself a nice solid build (full metal body) and came with both a coax cable and optical cable which worked just fine too.

The only note I would make is the optical connections on the unit didn't click quite as firmly as on other devices (e.g. TVs, game consoles etc) so I hope it remains durable as they can be popped out a little too easily perhaps. Only time will tell for this however.

It also didn't include it's own a power adaptor or plug, just a USB cable. And it require it's own power source to operate. Therefore I simply used a standard 5V 1A USB mobile phone charger adapter as I've accumulated write a few spares over the years.

One other final point to note is unlike the photos the power LED light on mine was red rather than blue as shown in the product pictures, but this is probably better as it perhaps isn't so bright at night.

All in all, I am very pleased with this unit and would happily recommend to anyone using it in the same configuration as myself (coax from TV converted to optical in on soundbar).

I recently upgraded my audio from my hifi/computer system to optical feeds from source to headphones, and to speakers via my amplifier.
I already had an FiiO DO3K digital to analog converter and was more than happy with the sound when connected to my vintage Sennhouse HD600 headphones. Only one minor ptoblem, the fixed volume level, although set at a good rate, was slightly under my preferred listening level. So, since it was so cheap I bought a Prozor 192K optical digital to analog converter, (the one with just optical in and only a jack plug out for headphones) which has a volume control on it..
Yes it did give me the extra volume I was seeking, but while both mastered the full range of sounds, the changes to the sound the two DAC's produced was revealling .
The DO3k produced a smooth, well controlled sound, extremely good thumping base, with perhaps a lack of sharpness to the otherwise well controlled treble end. The stereo imagery is excellent and the music integrated into a stable soundstage image.
The Prozor definitely had a higher volume level with it's pot, the treble I suppose you would call brighter, with more bite, the base, although very much still there, had slightly less impact. Perhaps it was the 'brightness' of the sound, but the soundstage was I feel more confused. To judge this more completely I think I need to try both of them on something more like orchestral music to establish how I feel about the soundstage that type of music presents itself given these two different DACs..
My current feeling is that for the pop end of the market the Prozor might be preferable, but I am sure that for orchestral type music, where the soundstage is everything, the FiiO DO3K is my preference.
One thing that surprized me was that the cost of implementing this optical sound and switching system was far less than the previous analog setup I had, so that's good news.
