I bought this selection of great voices reading great poetry & unlike some new compilations the poetry & spoken word is not 'cluttered' by any background music. The fact that these are historical recordings by actors whose voices are timeless & so individual in accent & tone. The fact that Robert Donat is part of this fine collection is staggering, his voice is mesmeric & he was in his day a 'heart throb', to have Flora Robson's voice is like a gift from the 'gods' I know I am putting the actors on a pedestal here, but I get 'so much comfort' from such very fine voices & the fact that the producers chose to not put any backing music is a standard that I wish the modern compilers would adhere to 'let the poems & sonnets breath'.

How customer reviews and ratings work
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on غ. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 May 2023A great selection of poems read by a range of people. So are very good and add to the poem others not so much. Decent recording quality.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 December 2020I bought these CD’s for two elderly friends who have macular degeneration and find it difficult to read, they both loved them.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 February 2016I enjoy listening to most of the cd, but I do find Dylan Thomas's rendering very mannered and old fashioned. This is the first poetry cd I have bought and I would not buy another which featured his readings, but there were plenty of others to enjoy in particular Richard Burton.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 December 2014This is for my son living abroad. Hope it will remind him of home and the lovely sound of the English language in great voices.
