No more cumbersome heavy wood frames, our lightweight, sturdy interchangeable screens are made to become your best gardening buddy. Quickly change larger screens on the fly to sift debris such as leaves and weeds from your garden soil, then break up clumps with smaller screens in preparation for seedlings.
- 1 mm mesh: Filter fine dust and soil.
- 2 & 3 mesh: Sift small 1 to 3 mm soil particles.

Practicool Garden Sieves Are Useful for a Variety of Hobbies Both Inside and Outside
Preparing Bonsai & Potting Soils
The key to successful Bonsai care is soil preparation. Using Practicool’s various smaller screens sizes you can easily sift the dust from the Akadama and lava rock to improve aeration and drainage. Then add pumice and organic soil and resift to ensure soil is well mixed. By utilizing this superior gardening riddle set, you will positively impact soil fertility as it will enhance root uptake of minerals and water.
Rock Gardening
Rock Gardens can be tedious to keep clean, especially when using small rocks that small debris such as leaves, dirt and twigs don’t pass though. Blow off top layer with blower. Then to remove smaller particles, use medium to small screen to shift through rocks over trash bag. Rocks stay in the screen while smaller debris falls into trash bag or bin. Simply dump rocks back over for a clean top layer.
Preparing Garden Soil & Mulching
Start with larger mesh screens to sift out leaves and weeds. Dirt easily falls through leaving debris in sieve so you can easily discard. Once dirt is clean, change out to medium size screen to sift soil leaving clumps which you can then break up or discard. Last step is to prepare for seedlings, sift top layer with small gauge mesh so soil doesn’t compact and seedlings can easily pop their heads out. Practicool largeer sieves are also great for grading mulch to sift out larger pieces.
Gathering Bulbs for Storage
Gathering bulbs can be a dirty job. Our customers love using the larger mesh screens to collect and dry bulbs. The dirt falls through back into your garden leaving bulbs ready to dry and store for the winter. Bulbs may need to be brushed if damp to remove excess dirt clumps before adding to peat.
Gathering Root Vegetables
We made this back breaking work easy. Gather your produce, brush off dirt which then falls through the mesh, then carry to your washing table to rinse. From garden to washing table, Practicool’s garden riddle leaves dirt where it belongs….in your garden.
Sort Beads & Buttons
What mom doesn’t have a craft bin full of odd buttons and beads? Our sieve kit with multiple sizes of meshes sort beads and buttons easily. Simply sift over tray or box lid, then pour into divided tray section. 10-15 minutes later you are ready to start your project! Makes a great rainy day project of kids.

Large sized incremental measurements up the trowel head guide you in achieving the best depth and spacing for planting your garden. Formed out of stainless steel to resist rust and corrosion this sturdy addition to your garden tools has a sharp digging blade so it slices through soil easily. Warning: Blade is sharp. This is not a toy for children.
Frames are hand-made and designed NOT to be perfectly round.
Mesh screens may need to be rotated when inserting to find the best fit. Mesh screens pop in snugly so they won’t fall out. Please note: because our frames and screens are hand made, Practicool screens are not made to fit other sieves on the market.
Sturdy Construction Will Never Let You Down
Two crossed steel rods support the mesh within the base and provide stability, keeping the mesh screens from bowing out from under and dropping through the frame. Sieve frame is slightly bowed so when oriented with bow bottom down mesh screen is held in place by friction.
Care & Maintenance
We recommend cleaning with a brush to remove debris before storage. If muddy, rinse and dry before storage.
