Product description
Queen’s self-titled debut album will be remixed and released this October. This is the first time that a Queen album has been remixed. Retitled Queen I for this release, the front cover’s Queen logo, originally designed by Freddie Mercury, will be updated with the addition of the Roman numeral “I”. The original album was recorded in 1972 and was released in July 1973 on EMI Records in the UK and Elektra in the USA.
Featuring the singles “Keep Yourself Alive” and “Liar”, the album achieved Gold sales in the UK and USA, and has been a fan favourite ever since.
This Collector’s Edition sees the album presented in a whole new light, having been newly mixed from the original multi-track masters, and with the song “Mad The Swine” now reinstated into the album running order in its originally intended place.
The bonus discs that complete the 6CD+1LP set include: De Lane Lea Demos (also newly mixed from the original multi-track masters for the very first time); a CD comprised entirely of previously unreleased Queen I session out-take music and dialogue; a CD of instrumental and backing track versions of the album; a live CD featuring some of the best and most interesting live performances of songs from this album (some of which are previously unreleased); and finally, a disc comprised of Queen I tracks that were recorded for BBC Radio One (including DJ announcements).
Queen I – including “Mad The Swine” – is also presented on 180g black vinyl.
The Collector’s Edition is complemented by the addition of a 108-page 12” hardback book, which features a treasure trove of rare and previously unseen photography, hand-written lyrics, Freddie Mercury’s sketches, and more.
Presented in a rigid two-piece box with fold-out poster and four photo prints.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 October 2024This is where I came in with Queen, following many articles in the music press and the single 'Keep Yourself Alive' i was hooked. I remember searching every record shop in town for the album. In those days unbelievably most big towns and cities had multiple record stores. I finally tracked it down and never looked back.
The new mix here is a revelation so inevitably it doesn't sound the same as it did and with an open mind I embrace it completely. I know to a lot of people they don't like having their favourites tampered with but this is exceptional.and its not as though the original mix has been lost.
Much of the additional material here has been issued before, demo's and the like but disc 3 has all the unreleased alternate and early takes and you know being Queen they all sound fantastic. Most of the live stuff has been out before but the inclusion of a live take of rare song 'Hangman' is welcome. It has to be said it is not a great song but the recording is excellent, much better than most bootleg versions and worth having. Presumably Queen never ever recorded it in the studio and if they had surely it would here.
The San Diego recording from '76 are a taste of what might coime up in future.
As expected the package is first class using the royal purple throughout, the hardback book is a wonderful addition full of unseen pictures.
Can we assume that next year we will get a similar treatment to Queen II. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 November 2024We are a Queen loving household! My dearly beloved takes more pleasure in the post-BoRap era of the band, whilst I have a preference for the first four albums. However, we have thoroughly enjoyed this new release of the first collection. The “newly discovered” track, however, didn’t set either of our hearts racing! It’s sitting well below average in my opinion.
Overall any Queen lover, who also enjoys the quality offered by the CD format, should take pleasure from the collection offered here. It’s well worth the price for the basic product - I’m not convinced by the “deluxe” variant though. It appears overpriced to me.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 November 2024Wasn't sure i was going to get this, i have the original vinyl and was perfectly happy with the 2011 2 disc remaster which replaced my original cd.
The box set looked tempting but pricy and as i have most of it spread over the aforementioned 2011 remaster/The 'at the Beeb' and On Air cd's plus 'Live at the Rainbow '74,it seemed too much.
So i plumped for this specifically as disc 2 has previously 'unreleased' demo's.
So was it worth it, well thats a huge yes, the demo's are a fantastic piece of history and hearing the snippets of chatter from the young 'posh' boys spine tingling.
But the main feature is disc 1,the album itself, it was always a great debut and in my humble opinion,it along with Queen 2,are the greatest Queen albums...
As i said before, i was happy with the 2011 remaster but this remix is like having a layer of grime removed, the sound awesome and as previous reviewers have said, its akin to hearing it for the first time all over again, And despite the minimal liner notes its still a 5 star reissue.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 November 2024I had bought the original way back and am faithful to the group QUEEN loving all of there work this is a their remix in a way they wanted it to be but at that time had no say in the mixing but where grateful for the use of the studio which was in the process of being fitted out as a new studio.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 December 2024I have always loved this album and now it has a 2nd disc with demos and studio chat etc which is well worth a listen.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 October 2024Expected more, but still pleased with this richer and more fuller sound from their debut album. Need a few replays before it will grip me. Decent product, but only aimed at the core Queen fans for once. Still should have called it "Deary Me".

5.0 out of 5 stars THE PREMIER QUEEN LP, and in my opinion the very best LP they ever put out.
THIS, the premier and best quality LP that QUEEN EVER RELEASED, simply titled QUEEN. This was really something when it was released and I had such great hoped for this band but it was all for nothing in the end as the entire thing fell apart. OH, they still managed to become a major talent and millions of people loved their music but this was the best in my mind. I ended up going to see them shortly after they came to Edmonton for this tour and it was a great show. Brian May and his custom guitar are still something else to see live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imprescindible
