DC barral jacks are a common method for powering devices, you'll find loads in your house and that makes they useful as you can re-use them in projects.
I needed to allow a power input so bought these sets, I only used the actual jacks themselves though. The quality is ok for what I paid, and they mounted nicely into the panel on my project.
Reasonable value for money, I'd buy these again.
