One of ITC’s best-loved series, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) takes the standard “private eye” formula and turns it on its head by making one of the partners a ghost!
Starring Mike Pratt as the earthy, rugged Jeff Randall and Kenneth Cope as his late partner Marty Hopkirk, the glamour is supplied by Annette Andre as Marty’s wife Jean. With whimsically dramatic scripts by Ralph Smart (Danger Man), Donald James (The Champions), Tony Williamson (The Avengers), Ray Austin (Space: 1999) and Gerald Kelsey (Department S), the scene is set for quirky plots, suspense, thrills and action.
The series has been remastered in HD from the original 35mm film elements.

Another excellent series from the Lou Grade stable (who gave us such classics as The Avengers & the Gerry Anderson puppet classics Thunderbirds & Captain Scarlet to name but a few) and first shown in 1968, this is a typical gem from that golden age of UK television where programmes of a consistently high standard were made. With a few exceptions, this is sadly not the case nowadays. Set around a struggling PI agency called Randall & Hopkirk where one of the partners in the firm (Marty Hopkirk) gets bumped off in a car accident & comes back as a ghost whom only Jeff Randall the other partner in the firm (and one or two other incidental characters) can see. This makes for some really comical moments, and the storylines whilst being typical PI hokum are very easy to watch and follow with plenty to keep the grey matter occupied without being stereotyped or corny. Good entertainment & plenty of nostalgia for those like me who long to return to that sixties sense of sunny optimism that disappeared so soon in the 1970s. Yet another high quality digital restoration in full colour from the Carlton Visual Entertainment stable, this is the entire collection of 26 episodes. The sound is only in mono, but what do you expect for 1968? And there isn't much in the way of extras, just some stills & a few trailers, but to me they're just the decorations on the cake anyhoo - it's the programmes themselves that matter! Don't confuse this set with that AWFUL 90s re-make starring Reeves & Mortimer, this is the original and the best. You'll be playing the theme tune over and over again in your head! Recommended!
Concerning the forthcoming release by Spirit Entertainment: It will be released on 31st December 2099? Brilliant! You will have to exhume me and put it on top of my body before burying me again!
I was only a child when i used to watch the series on Tv and it is and was just a brilliant programme.Great atmosphere, Humour, Lovely ladies and classic villians. It brings back great memories of great times for me.The remake should never have been made.AWFUL!! Buy this collection its Brilliant!!
A clever concept of a private eye haunted by his murdered partner who helps him solve crimes. Good cast and imaginative plots. Appears a little dated in places but still has good entertainment value with a good few laughs. A nice boxed set.
