    Few stars of the music scene can claim to be as recognisable as Bob Dylan. His music spans the decades and has probably ben nre recorded by more people than any other. He almost single handedly brought about the revolution that abandoned The Age of the Crooners to bring about today's Pop Music Scene. He inmspired songwriters like Lennon/McCartney and Groups like The Byrds, Mannfred Mann as well as solo singers like Donovan. with superb music like 'A Hard, Rain is Gonna Fall', 'Blowin' in the Wind', Knockin' on Heaven's Door' and so many others. 'Like a Rollin' Stone' Bob Dylan's Legacy will keep on Rollin' on.

    No Dylan compilation can ever satisfy a true fan, but this one does a good job of gathering together Bob's best known songs with a few surprises. The 3:54 version of Positively 4th Street is the stereo version of the original single which is now to be found on CD only on 1985's "Biograph" and on the non-US release "The Best Of Bob Dylan Vol. 2" (The stereo version on the 2012 US-released remastered "Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" is a longer mix at 4:12); Forever Young is unusually, the "fast" version from "Planet Waves"; Changing Of The Guards is the 7:03 version from the 1999 remastered version of "Street-Legal"; Series Of Dreams and Most Of The Time are alternate versions from 2008's "The Bootleg Series Vol. 8 - Tell Tale Signs: Rare And Unreleased 1989-2006"; Dignity is not the 1994 Brendan O'Brien remixed version for "Greatest Hits Vol. 3", but from the 550 Music/Sony Music Soundtrax compilation "Touched By An Angel: The Album", 1998. It was later included on the 2000 European/Japanese Columbia compilations "The Best Of Bob Dylan Vol. 2". So, a good budget buy.

    These cds cover much of Dylan's career, from his early 60's 'folk' incarnation, to some examples of his later 'bootleg' recordings, notably the restrained power of the haunting 'Most of the Time'.

    CD1 covers his sixties work (63-69), with a generous 16 tracks from this period, including the iconic 'Like a Rolling Stone' and 'Hard Rain's Gonna Fall', early protest songs like 'With God on our side', the seductive 'I Want You', and the dark mystery of 'All Along the Watchtower', plus many more, thanks to a generous running time a little under 80 minutes.

    All the more disappointing to find that CD2, covering the 70's, runs for only 60 minutes, and only manages the over-rated 'Tangled up in Blue' and 'Buckets of Rain' from the classic 'Blood on the Tracks' album, instead of the stronger material available. Consolations exist in the powerful lyrical majesty of 'Changing of the Guards' from 'Street Legal', and the bitterly wry 'Gotta Serve Somebody', but the restricted running time lets some better songs slip away.

    CD3 samples across the 80-90's, a long period of erratic quality from Dylan, and does manage (again with a much longer running time) to select some of the best stuff from the misfiring master. 'Blind Willie McTell', 'Everything is Broken', and a blistering version of 'Brownsville Girl' particularly stand out.

    As others have noted, Sony's complacent attitude to the paying public means that no information accompanies this 3CD set, not even running times, or the albums from which the tracks were taken. This, and the short running time of CD2, downgrades my review by one star. However, you do get an interesting collection of Dylan material taken from over 30 years of his switchback career, for only a fiver, and that has to be worth celebrating, for fans old and new...

    This little 3-disc gem is just the job if, like me, you need to familiarise yourself with some of the best of Dylan from the 80's onwards while at the same time refamiliarising yourself with his earlier stuff which has somehow got lost in the shuffle from vinyl to cassette to CD.
    I always had affection for Jokerman, but now I'm also aware of how great tracks like Sweetheart Like You, Blind Willie McTell and pretty much everything else on disc 3 is. I already knew this about Dylan's 60's and 70's stuff, and now it occurs to me that disc 3 might represent the 80's exclusively (there is a woeful shortage of information included here regarding this packages contents).
    But at less than a fiver who's complaining?

    This compilation is a must for all Dylan fans and those that will become fans! An ideal introduction to "the man" for those who need to be introduced and a great collection for those who have all the albums but want to hear a good cross section of his work.
    Of course there are tracks missing that should have been included but you cannot please all of the people all the time! Fantastic price - buy it while you can!

    The tracks seemed to have been chosen thoughtfully and it's certainly not the same old bill of fare you would expect, well, for this kind of money.
    When I want to hear Dylan but I'm not sure which Dylan, I can put these discs on and travel through his every incarnation, including several rare ones.
    It's a great collection and, no, not just for the money.
