Listening to Richard Burton reading the poetry of Dylan Thomas is an overwhelming experience, and there is nothing disappointing in this collection. A double CD containing well-known pieces by Thomas, together with a selection of readings from Thomas Hardy, John Donne, Samuel Taylor Coleridge (including the lengthy "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner") and others, Burton's voice lends a depth to each reading. I will admit to being somewhat sceptical about buying this collection. I wanted Burton reading Dylan Thomas and there are single CD versions available, but I liked the idea of having a larger collection of Burton's readings. My fear was the quality, would I hear Burton or would I heard endless clicks and whirrs with low volume? Absolutely not. These CDs have been produced really well from the very old copies that had to be converted to digital. No clicks, no pops, no loud whirrs, just Burton's voice, loud and clear. A very pleasing listen.
