I really like the design and the capability of storing it vertically , so it takes up far less room than you would think if storage space is at a premium. The LCD display is basic but all you need to count your strokes or time etc. The magnetic resistance system is excellent and offers levels to fit anyone's requirements, from a newbie or child to an efficient oarsman. It is very smooth and really quiet. The seat rollers are smooth and overall the whole system/ experience is really good. Obviously, This is never going to be a top range rowing machine. I purchased it for cardio reasons after having a heart attack. However, I expected the resistance to be a lot better, I’m not a big bloke, but I’m reasonably fit.. well, was reasonably fit. I found a few problems that I think are relevant if you decide to purchase a rowing machine..the seller srates that a person upto 6 ft can use this rower, well yes they can but it will do them no good, I’m 5ft 8 and I struggle to find a comfortable position that will offer me a meaningful workout, weak resistance and my knees get in the way of the hand grip when pushing back. It’s just too short for someone my height or taller. But look, it’s early stages yet, I’ll see how it fairs at the end of a few months.
Assembly was simple and straightforward (use a socket wrench, the spanner’s supplied are feeble). The seat glides very smoothly, overall, the functionality, how can I put it!, well I suppose it does what it says on the tin… if you are under 5ft 8. This is only my opinion and I’m not a professional

I've owned this rower for about 2 months now and I've logged just over 25,000 strokes at this point. I have to say that I'm extremely pleased with the rowing machine at this point. I live in a complex with neighbors and roommates, and as such, I was looking for a rowing machine that would be quiet. I knew I'd end up going magnetic, and if you've been searching, you know this to be a pretty crowded field of products. A lot of them claim to be quiet while also offering diverse levels of resistance. Then, if you are like me, you start combing the reviews - tossing the ones that read like bots - and trying to get down to the real experiences. I'l try and break my review in the following categories: Assembly, Build Quality, Actual Use, Value. I should also point out that I've never circumnavigated the globe in a row boat, nor have I rowed up *insert impossible river to row* or any other such nonsense. So my opinion of rowing machines is purely limited to using a few concept machines at various gyms and owning 1 belt driven fan type home rowing machine. In other words, I'm just a normal user.

Assembly: I'm giving this machine 5 stars. I was able to assembly the rowing machine in under an hour and with no problems or headaches. The instructions are clear and the included tools are more than adequate to assemble the machine. Obviously, having your own socket wrench will make things easier, but it's not required. The box was packed nicely and there's several metal support pieces that are used to ensure that no damage occurs during shipping. My unit arrived safely with no damage. The whole box is maybe 4.5 ft long and about a 1.5 ft deep. It weighs about 70-75 lbs. Obviously having two people to move it is recommended, but I was able to move it around myself with no issues.

Build Quality: Another 5 stars here. After completing the assembly and using the product the for about 2 months, I can genuinely say that the build quality is excellent for the price. I've had zero mechanical issues with the magnetic drive system, the seat assembly, foldable design, or the row bar/nylon mesh band. The foot pads are probably the only weak point here. The plastic is pretty thin and I could see if someone got a little crazy or careless moving the unit that these could be a point of failure. But honestly, the foot pads are usually the weirdest/weakest part of most rowing machines - even on units that cost twice or triple as much as this one. So it's nothing I'd ding a star for.

Actual Use: Here's where this rowing machine really shines for me. I needed something quiet and that could offer up some actual resistance. Let's tackle quiet first. This thing is incredible. I had a fan belt rower previous to this machine and I couldn't even block out the sound using noise cancelling headphones it was so loud. Forget about using it with roommates or with neighbors - instant noise complaints. But this machine is so quiet! I can literally watch TV and get a workout in without having to adjust the TV volume from where I usually have it. If I put my headphones in to listen to music - I don't even have to activate the noise cancellation. Yes, it's that quiet. I does make noise, to be clear, but it's basically just the sound of the seat moving along the metal bar. Now let's tackle the resistance quickly. While the description says 16 resistance levels - I'd put it to you that it's really more like 4 levels. I say this because I can't really tell the difference between resistance levels inside a factor of 4. For example changing from level 2 to level 3 - I can't really feel the difference. But if I change from level 4 to level 9 - that I can feel. This isn't a real criticism , and someone else might be able to feel the finer resistance adjustments. Regardless, this unit is exactly what I wanted. I tend to start a workout at level 4 for warmup - then I'll move into about level 10 for the bulk of the rowing, say about 25 mins. I'll push up to the highest resistance for about 10 mins, before dropping back into level 4 for the cool down. By the time I'm hitting that full resistance cycle, my legs are burning up pretty good. My previous rowing machine offered 10 levels of resistance and they all felt the same. So this machine is a massive improvement over that and actually offers up some real resistance, which is good if you're looking to add a little strength training into your cardio cycles.

Value: Let's wrap this up with value. I'll just be honest here because I don't know if I got this unit at a sale price or not. I'm not sure what price you are seeing as you look at this item now - but I got my unit for under $300 and that's including a high tax rate in my state. So value gets another 5 stars from me as I could have easily spent twice that and probably gotten something similar in terms of quality. All in all - I couldn't be happier with how this purchase turned out.

Wrap up: After about 2 months - I couldn't be happier. This machine is solid and very quiet. The resistance levels are good and the value is pretty incredible considering some rowing machines can set you back $1400. It's worth noting I'm just below average height and I'm pretty average weight. So if you are 6'7" or something - your mileage may vary.

EDIT: I forgot to mention - the LCD display is basically useless. Looks like an old school Casio watch display. I don’t ding a star for this as in my case I’m using a fitness watch with a rowing activity to track distance based on pulls and calories etc.

So, I have been using this rowing machine for about 3 weeks now. The reason for purchasing it, price, folded, low impact and rowing is an excellent cardio and workout. Like most people said, it took me about an hour to put together...and I was taking my time... Not a fancy display, but I didn't need one. It tells overall time, time to 500m, strokes, distance, calories, spins per minute and a moving diagram of where you are in your stroke...so a little fancy... Overall it feels well made and sturdy, resistance levels are very noticeable and great "bang for the buck", and very little noise when using it, so I am not disturbing others at all. I did have an extremely small issue that was an easy fix. When you are using the machine and the foot rests hit the stop there is a very load "clang". It is the hard plastic of the foot pad hitting the metal stop bar. I figured out a real quick fix...I had an anti-slip mat that I had bought from the dollar store a while back. I just cut a small strip of that off to wrap around the metal stop bar a couple times, taped it into place and now that "clang" is an almost unnoticeable "thud"... When I workout I don't what to have to think about if I am disturbing others in my house...I want to concentrate on my workout. That "clang" would have been a big distraction for me...no longer...I am not removing any stars for that "clang" because it's an easy fix and does not effect the mechanics of the machine at all...it's just a personal thing with me...

Excellent piece of equipment. I picked this up on sale and I use it everyday. It doesn’t take up very much room, it’s easy to fold up, the rollers seem to be holding up. The only issue is the seat is a little firm but I just added a cushion on top of it. The LCD screen is easy to use. Worth the money for someone looking to get into rowing exercises.

I used to own a Concept 2 Model D Rower. If you don't know what that is, it's the de facto rower in the market, meant for casual to hardcore crossfit/tournament level use. It was really a thing of beauty but I had to move and sold it as part of the move.

Then I started missing my rower in my new smaller apartment because it's such a great full body exercise and it can be easily done while watching TV shows.

I gave this one a try and I have to say I really like it. Here are the key points to note:

- It is meant for casual use, not for cross fit level use.

- Does it tire you? The answer is yes. My heart rate spikes to 160-170 after 2 minutes of rowing.

- You can't do any kind of HIIT intervals with it easily. Concept 2 was amazing for it since it had built in and custom programs for all kinds of use. This one is pretty simple with simple stats and no advanced programming

- Resistance does the job. it's a fair bit of work at the highest resistance. Like a mix of cardio and strength, something that I think can be very beneficial.

- It's nowhere near as sturdy or smooth feeling as Concept 2, but at the same time it's no slouch either. Movement is smooth, doesn't make much noise and feels stable on the ground (make sure you tighten the red knob fully, otherwise it's going to be unstable)

- If you want a full body workout that can be tuned to cardio or partial strength with the resistance, this is a great machine.

- Assembly was very thoughtful. I was impressed. 5-6 clear steps, well labelled parts. I did it in an easy going way while watching a show and didn't have any problems.

- The monitor itself isn't that great. The split timing for 500 m is a very good metric for rowing but I don't think its accurate at all on this one. What I do end up using is number of strokes, time elapsed and strokes per minute which feels somewhat accurate. One very neat thing is that it only measures time elapsed when you are rowing. So if you want to stop and rest for a bit, it doesn't add up. That way you can work out for a given time in a precise way without worrying about rest periods.

Overall, for the price point, this is an awesome full body exercise machine that a treadmill/bike can't achieve.

This is my first rower and I have never used one prior to buying this one. I weight lift at home (off and on for the past 15 years) and have never gone to a gym to exercise. After hearing about a rowing machine, I started doing research and found they offer a great almost total body workout and are great for cardio, an area I'll admit I severely lack. After being on my feet all day, I hate cardio. Now on to the rower. It took me over 20 minutes to assemble. Possibly close to 45 minutes because of the messy unboxing process. Assembly was pretty straight forward and nothing too complicated. After assembly and using the machine for the past few weeks, I have found the machine itself overall perfect for my needs. I'm 6'2" and weigh 215 lbs. I can do full strokes on the machine and it holds my weight with ease. The resistance of the machine varies and I've found the higher resistance adds a lot to the workout as the minutes go on. I typically use resistance 1-10 for my workouts, adding or decreasing in intervals. I do wish folding the machine had a different method, I find using a screw to hold the folding area together takes too much effort if folding and unolding for every use. I removed 1 star from the rower because of the display for keeping track. I think the only thing accurate with the display is the number of strokes. The calories, distance and even the display of current stroke position seem to be off. I was doing around 30 full strokes a minute and it was saying my split time was around 4 minutes, which from what I can tell, is way off. But ultimately I love this machine and feel it has added quite a bit to my exercise routine. Also I am glad I picked a magnetic resistance over a water resistance so I don't have to worry about any leaks or anything.

Update 4/4/23: After 2 months of use, the seat ripped. I contacted the seller and gave them some information about the seat. A week later a new seat cushion showed up. Now that's customer service!
